Dude. Not. Even. Close. The biggest threat to any individual liberty at this time are plutocrats from all types of countries. The US military is not really a threat to American individualism apart from those in it, but the loss of a stable middle class will be greatly detrimental to all.

You are entirely wrong about that (what a surprise). For some perspective, though, Chechnya has 1.4 million people, and is in the middle of nowhere, and put up a hell of a fight. South Ossetia had around 54k, though the Russians have typically shipped a lot out and moved in their people so that they control the elections. Ukraine has 44 million people (debatable I guess, Russian bots and American morons will go with zero). Russia has openly said for years that they were going to do this. And that they expect to recover control over all of the Eastern Europe states that they formerly controlled. This is definitely the place to draw the line in the sand. And it's really more the Eastern Europe states doing this - Poland in particular. We need to support that to a huge extent, this is important just as Poland was in 1939. The parallels are striking, except that Russia is delusional in thinking that they have that kind of military power.

It's like thinking that without cheese dip you want be able to sell Mexican food... But when you got a taco truck that also sells fatass delicious burritos you don't need to sell queso. Takes up too much space. That isn't discounting the influence and importance that queso dip has had on brick and mortar restaurants. 2 things can be true.

Sure, but it was also in the context of June 2001. Early in the Bush term the Hainan Island incident had occurred only a couple of months before, most of the security establishment was focused on China. Bush had been critical of US involvement in the Balkans. I was stationed in Germany and all of the talk was about pulling the rest of US forces out of Germany. Both Russia and the US had a lot of interests in cooperation.

They damn sure better after the billions we’ve pumped in there. I mean that’s sort of the point isn’t it? Obviously to indirectly frick Russia, but after should you waste the opportunity to avoid it more in the future? No.
Aside from that, when this is over Ukraine will be the most combat tested country in the EU and second most in NATO aside from us. They’ll need to rearm, regroup, rebuild. We will help a LOT, but American companies will reap a lot of those beneifts. We’ll gain what should be a competent partner in the alliance, another natural resource trading partner, I’d hope. If we help create a more open economy in rebuilding theoretically it’s a much wider market for American goods and services than before.

Based on the videos of the air campaign lately. It looks like Russia is using more and more unguided or dumb bombs. That means the Russians have to fly low for the bombs to be hit their target.

Those MANPADs are deadly to low flying aircraft. Western air forces have a lot more guided munitions than the Russians. Which means western planes can stay out of MANPAD range and still hit their target. Plus western air forces have much more advanced counter measures to defeat the MANPADs.
