Can anyone tell me why Russia would want Chernobyl? it isn't a functioning place.
Because there's a fricking sweet ferris wheel there that's supposed to be wild when it's cranking.

He's got 60%of his ground forces fully engaged in Ukraine and has yet to meet any of his strategic objectives against a much smaller opponent. Every hour this drags on, every video of shot down helicopters, burning tanks and Russian prisoners exposes Putin as a paper tiger. And the insurgency hasn't even started yet. He may take parts of Ukraine, but he won't hold it, and he won't take the Baltics.
There are armchair quarterbacks, and then there are armchair commanders-in-chief.

What I mean is Putin's only hope for success is a quick victory. He doesn't have the logistics for more than a few weeks at most. And politically, it gives the international opposition time to galvanize. If he had been able to sieze Kiev's Government district last night in an airborne operation and installed a puppet, this would be over. He didn't, and it's not.

The war isn’t even 24 hours old. Seizing a capital that quick is virtually impossible. We couldn’t even do that.

Ukraine now saying Snake Island might be lost after saying it was safe earlier. Lost contact with defense there.

The Russians are placing a military base at Chernobyl. The value of that location is that they know it will not be bombed or air striked by their enemies as no one would want to risk hitting the reactor and releasing nuclear contaminants. The delicacy of the old Chernobyl reactor is a form of shield for Russian troops there.

I wonder if they’ll do any fishing while they’re there?

Im not some war expert or anything but I imagine it takes a little longer than 1 night to take over a capital of a country that houses about 3 million people

Did not think of that. That’s a good point.

Someone mentioned seeing this earlier but we’ve got some sourcing now. Definitely not ideal.

They've been maneuvering for less than a day.

Which means Putin bit off more than he could chew. He doesn't have the manpower to finish this job
