How many of you guys ate up that Ghost of Kyiv story from Bellingcat

"The US government funding propaganda and disinformation via USAID and NED is a legitimate issue. An equal issue is the fact that establishment media outlets often cite these same USAID/NED-funded groups without acknowledging their US state funding.

One example among many is Bellingcat, an “open source” website which US media never identifies as NED/NATO state funded.

Why does private media conceal state propaganda?"

Agreed. I also believe had Trump been in office and Putin moved on Ukraine Trump would have done more to support Ukraine and the maga boys that are now screeching pro Russian shite would be pro Ukraine.

Political stupidity on both parties.

Is it true that Putin published Melania nude modeling pictures when Trump was elected. Really dumb move if true.

Some of our budget disputes had a visible impact on the propaganda war. You'd see twitter accounts go silent because the payments were stopped while Congress worked out a deal.

100% true. And the Russian propagandists snickered at the pics, blown up as the visual backdrop on national tv in Russia.

The Su-27S/UBM fighter of the Ukrainian Air Force was intercepted by a Russian Su-30SM2 using a long-range R-37M air-to-air missile from a distance of 130 km, industry sources report.

Ukrainian media also confirm the pilot's death.

"Russian specialized resources claim that on February 2, a Su-27 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was shot down by a long-range R-37M air-to-air missile from a Russian Su-30SM2 fighter jet from a distance of 130 km. The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced the destruction of the Su-27 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In turn, Ukrainian sources confirm that the Ukrainian fighter pilot Captain Ivan Bolotov (photo), who served in the 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade equipped with Su-27 fighter jets, "did not return from a combat mission."

ISW Update Feb 3 2025

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian forces continued to suffer high losses in January 2025 despite a slower rate of advance as compared with previous months in late 2024.

Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted drone strikes against Russian oil and gas infrastructure in Volgograd and Astrakhan oblasts on the night of February 2 to 3.

Ukrainian forces continue to innovate with drone operations to maintain their technological advantage over Russia and bring about battlefield effects.

The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) expressed concern about the "sharp rise" in reports of Russian forces executing Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs).

Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on February 3 that Ukraine has started implementing organizational reforms to transition the Ukrainian Armed Forces into a "corps structure."

Unspecified actors assassinated Armen Sargsyan, the founder of the "Arbat" Special Purpose Battalion, who has been involved in Russia's hybrid activities and invasions of Ukraine since 2014.

Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Borova, and Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Borova, Lyman, Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and in the Dnipro direction.

The Russian government is expanding the federal "Time of Heroes" program, which aims to install Kremlin-selected veterans into government positions, to occupied Ukraine as part of long-term efforts to integrate occupied Ukraine into Russia.

This is a good thread on the Russian advances across the battlefield.

Ukraine could be in dire straits. The real question is, does Russia have the combat power to make a breakthrough and deep penetration? Russia can put this thing to bed if they do.

I don't think they can do this. Time will tell.

It will be interesting to see how functional this really is. How fast can it cycle between shots? Can it fire fast enough to take down a swarm of missiles?

Incredible images capture US Navy testing its new laser weapon that NEVER runs out of power

The US Navy has released stunning images showing its incredible new drone-destroying laser weapon in action for the first time.

The HELIOS system was tested aboard the USS Preble, with photos capturing its bright beam shooting an unmanned aerial vehicle out of the sky.

HELIOS, which stands for High Laser with Integrated Optical-dazzler and Surveillance, was developed by Lockheed Martin in 2021 and delivered to the Navy a year later.

The system blasts more than 60 kilowatts of directed energy, enough to power up to 60 homes, at the speed of light and can hit targets up to five miles away.

It is designed to counter a range of threats, including drones, small boats, and potentially incoming missiles.

They've been working on the western bank for a few months (?) now. I assume they'll take Kupyansk in the Spring, and then Izyum cutting that north south rail line.

Russian advances are not increasing in speed. They are continuing to take ground at a relatively slow pace, just as they did for most of last year.
