ISW Update Sept 19th
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly declined a request from the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) to offset Russian losses by declaring another mobilization wave in spring 2024 likely to avoid political costs associated with involuntary reserve call-ups. Putin has since remained committed to his crypto mobilization campaign, constraining Russia's mobilization potential.
Mobilization in Russia remains unlikely in the near to medium term due to Putin’s personal fear that mobilization is a direct threat to his regime’s stability.
Russian authorities have reportedly tasked Russian forces with pushing Ukrainian forces out of Kursk Oblast by mid-October 2024 and establishing a "buffer zone" into Ukrainian border areas along the international border with Russia in northeastern Ukraine by the end of October — significant undertakings that the Russian military is very unlikely to achieve in such a short period of time.
The Kremlin continues to signal its commitment to improving Russian drone operations in Ukraine and drone production capabilities amid efforts to offset the social and economic impacts of a protracted Russian war effort.
Putin claimed that Russia must ensure that there are "no barriers" to the movement of Russian citizens between mainland Russia and Kaliningrad Oblast.
The reported transfer of Indian artillery shells through European intermediaries to Ukraine is reportedly generating tensions within the Russian-Indian relationship.
The European Parliament called on member states to lift restrictions on Ukraine's ability to use Western-provided long-range systems to strike military objects in Russia.
Ukrainian forces recently marginally advanced in Kursk Oblast.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk, and Russian forces recently advanced near Kharkiv City, Svatove, Siversk, Chasiv Yar, Pokrovsk, and Hulyaipole.
Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated during a meeting on the development of the Russian Armed Forces on September 18 that the Kremlin aims to improve Russia's federal level training system.

There are a lot of brilliant and productive Russians... who got the hell out of Russia.
I know a couple of them who had to return during the COVID shutdown because they lost jobs elsewhere and are now stuck there. But they're academics and classical musicians, the kind of people Russia wants to preserve, so they don't think they'll be conscripted... unless they say something that pisses someone off.

So, people who doubt Putin would ever think of messing with a NATO country... how do you suppose he can achieve what he just claimed he has to ensure?

I don't think they or anybody else will be clamoring for Russian and Chinese weapons these days...
so I'm sure they will.
So you just proved my point. They would buy weapons from the US with military aid dollars provided by the US taxpayer. In other words, American welfare. That is what most of those countries do. NATO members included. So who benefits, the MIC and many US politicians(who by the way own stock or receive "donations/contributions" from these companies). It a a racket. Those "allies"get weapons for free, the MIC rakes in the dough and the US taxpayer is screwed once again.
Thanks for clarifying that.

The former finance director of Gazprom has applied for US citizenship, a biz friend of mine. He's been here since he left Gazprom in 2007. Grew up in Moscow as the son of well connected parents and pro Ukraine. Thinks Putin is not the brightest star in the sky, just the most ruthless. Another has long been a citizen originally from St. Petersburg one of the USSR's top young physicists. He's pro Ukraine as well.
Meanwhile people who only know what nothingburger idiot bloggers say about Russia think they are calling me out. In fact, are showing their ignorance and stupidity.

Who works at those American defense contractor plants? Do those companies pay taxes? Do those workers pay taxes? Do those workers pay mortgages in American cities and towns? Eat at local restaurants and buy stuff at local stores?
If you closed down those defense companies you'd put entire towns out of business in some cases.
It all comes back, ultimately... unless we refuse to make those execs and CEOs and stockholders and politicians pay their fair percentage of taxes... which I'm sure someone is about to argue against

Ukraine exposed a weakness and no way could be compete with China without the 2/3 of money "for Ukraine" would have made it through congress.

quote:Oh, I'm keenly aware of Russian history. Far more so than those here who fail to recognize the predictable (therefore avoidable) Russian rationale for this war in the first place.
If you watched the vid he's referencing, or studied Russian History, you'd take away something the vid makes a point to highlight
"Russia remains a country ..."
Respondent to your point though, if the posts in question were framed in terms of a country or system, it would be a different matter. They weren't. Instead, they negatively stereotyped individual human beings because the poster doesn't like the country those humans are stuck living in, or the system they are subjected to.
I guess the dehumanization enables this war as a contest ripe for spectator entertainment though, a Hunger Games of sorts. This thread often reads that way.

This from an American who thinks it somehow makes sense to let 10s of millions of illegals invade our border while pissing away 100s of billions so a country can defend theirs....who are these sheeple you speak of
I dont have a friend of a friend of a business associate, Ive actually worked and traveled in Russia and there are some incredibly smart people at various levels.
But speaking again of your sheeple, I think Putin pretty well had many Americans spot on, killing their babies or maiming them when they do survive, inventing new categories of humans, and sexual perversion, pitting every race color and creed against one another, using the MIC to become filthy rich at the expense of lives of others in foreign lands.
And Russia still advances across all fronts......

Huh?
No one stereotyped an individual Russians
It’s Russia. It’s a country who won’t play nice. A country that wars with its neighbors.
It doesn’t matter what individual Russians are like. It matters that their country is the cause of a lot of grief and misery.

This dude only posts from websites with titles like "Kyivisthebest.web" and has been doing it for months if not years, if anyone here is actually in Kyiv its him
Is noticing trolling?

Actually my complaints mostly tend to be about inconsistent standards when it comes to asking for proof and selectively applying logic when it fits the narrative people want to believe.

Great to be liar, I guess. If I lied like you I'd buy that Kharkiv will be taken in 3 days. When have I ever in my lifetime condoned illegal immigration?

Not surprised. 9 down votes that are in favor of this scam and the American taxpayer being screwed. And you people call the PB stupid?
These "allies" using American welfare to purchase their weapons.
This thread is just sad.
