South Carolina is expected to be without two key starters when the Gamecocks open the 2026 season against Kent State on Saturday.

Head coach Shane Beamer told ESPN that star defensive end Dylan Stewart and transfer left tackle Jacarrius Peak are not expected to play in the season opener as they continue working their way back from injuries.

Stewart has been dealing with a back injury dating back to last season, while Peak continues to recover from a knee injury suffered in February.

There was some encouraging news regarding both players. Beamer said Peak is continuing to ramp up his workload and was expected to do more in Tuesday's workout than he has at any point this year.

As for Stewart, Beamer said the standout pass rusher should be cleared for contact soon and will then be "ready to roll."

South Carolina hosts Kent State in Week 1 and Towson in Week 2 before opening SEC play against Mississippi State in Week 3.
