Wrong and why we are having issues with pumping out artillery rounds with most of the foreign aid packages being spent here to build back munitions capabilities.

He could have even mentioned that we had a large conscript army until the early 1970's. Retirement benefits are now a much larger part of today's defense budget than when it was above 8% of GDP. You don't have to pay conscripts enough to entice them to be in the military to begin with.
BTW, when I worked in SoCal in the early 90's, the very nice apartment complex I lived in, in Seal Beach, with sand volley ball courts, tennis courts, dry cleaners, small convenience store and theatre, was full of ship fitters, not management, from the shuttered Philadelphia Navy Yard, working in Long Beach with all expenses paid. This was no different than Shell Refining paying all of my expenses there.
I'll go even further, same holds true for "Big Oil" which nutters like to blame price at the pump on. The only oil with any profit at $6 per barrel is in the Ghawar oilfield in Saudi Arabia. Otherwise, it doesn't exist anywhere these days, we've pumped all of those shallow reservoirs to extinction here.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 02 June 2024
On 21 May 2024, Russian media reported that General-Major Ivan Popov, former commander of the Russian 58th Combined Arms Army (CAA), had been arrested on charges of fraud and corruption related to the sale of military construction materials. Popov was dismissed from his post as commander of the 58th CAA (deployed to the Zaporizhzhia sector in Ukraine) in July 2023 after his private criticism about the competence of Russian defence leadership's decisions relating to the conduct of the war were publicised. Popov subsequently criticised the decision to remove him publicly, describing it as "our senior commander hitting us from the rear, treacherously and vilely beheading the army at the most difficult and tense moment."
In a system where corruption itself is endemic, its punishment is more often a political tool than an attempt to enforce good governance. There is a long history of the Russian regime using corruption charges, real or invented, to remove or punish internal critics or those who have angered more powerful elite figures. It is likely Popov's arrest is a demonstrative punishment for his perceived disloyalty to his superiors.
As an army commander, Popov was generally regarded as highly competent and, according to Russian military commentators, was popular among Russian troops. His arrest is likely to further dismay Russian military personnel and reinforce to his peers in senior command positions that loyalty and obedience to the regime and one's superiors is valued more highly than competence and charisma.

Zelensky urges US to allow Ukraine to strike Russia with ATACMS missiles
by The Kyiv Independent news desk June 2, 2024 3:13 PM
President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 2 said the U.S. should allow Ukraine to strike inside Russia with long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles to protect lives.
Zelensky’s statement comes shortly after the White House confirmed that it lifted the ban on the use of some U.S. weapons by Ukraine against Russian territory near Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts.
Washington still prohibits Ukraine from using ATACMS and other long-range U.S.-supplied weapons for strikes deeper inside Russia, U.S. officials said.
Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, Zelensky thanked U.S. President Joe Biden for the permission but insisted that restrictions – including the ban on the use of ATACMS – should be lifted.
“Is that sufficient? No. Why? Because I have given you the example of airfields from which Russia is permanently firing, in calm, knowing that Ukraine will not fire back because it has no corresponding systems and no permissions,” Zelensky said, as cited by The Telegraph, in reaction to Washington’s decision.
Zelensky said Kyiv was waiting for the approval to strike Russian military airfields, the staging grounds for attacks against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. He added that Russia has about 300 weapon systems – loaded with tens of thousands of missiles – deployed on its side of the border to attack Ukraine, The Telegraph reported.
“So they have these weapons there, and they do not remove them because they know that Ukraine cannot target them with Western weaponry even if they fire against us,” Zelensky said.

He expected us to all be radioactive ash or Russia would have taken Kyiv by now. He didn’t realize he would have to continue to “not come back to the thread” a year later.

Couple of reports that suddenly a bunch of Russian helicopters and planes are being shot down. Nothing solid, but I wonder if F16's and long range air to air missiles have joined the fight.

These “peaceniks” not only want the war to end, they want Ukraine to lose.
They get upset when anything favorable to Ukraine is reported.

Russian oil refinery in Komi Republic catches fire, casualties reported
by The Kyiv Independent news desk June 2, 2024 7:05 PM
A Russian oil refinery in the northwestern Komi Republic caught fire on June 2, leading to casualties, the Komi Republic’s Investigative Committee said.
The committee said there were both injured and dead in the incident but didn't disclose further details.
The oil refinery belongs to Russia's second-largest oil company, Lukoil. It is located four kilometers away from the city of Ukhta, according to the head of the Komi Republic, Vladimir Uiba.
Uiba said in a Telegram post that the fire was caused by "non-compliance with safety regulations" and not by a Ukrainian drone attack.
