They serve a lot of Merc functions overseas in places where Russian regulars wouldn't be acceptable. I'd guess that his portfolio would pass to some silovik and that has Putin's favor and who he doesn't find threatening.

Either that or Putin places one of his own at the head to continue their work in Africa without it "officially" being run from the Kremlin.
I guess it depends on how much hardware Wagner actually has and how much Moscow needs it for the Ukraine front. Haven't they been aquiring weapons from Wagner for the past two months?

I don't think that's going to work. The Africa stuff has largely been built on Prigozhin's personal relationships. Nor are most of the Wagner fighters going to participate, as they will all be wondering if they are the next ones to be blown up.
I really wonder if this was Putin himself. I would have guessed that he'd arrest Prigozhin if he wanted to, to avoid the potential reaction of Wagner to a martyr.
Part of me wonders if this is Shoigu and Gerasimov getting their own revenge.
