Interesting if true

quote:

Ukrainian GUR have managed to convince a Russian pilot of an Mi-8 AMTSH helicopter to land and hand over the aircraft and surrender himself to relevant authorise in Poltava area.

LINK

quote:

It was a special operation of the GUR, which lasted more than 6 months.
Along with the pilot, there were 2 crew members on board who did not know where the helicopter was actually going.
The crew made a flight and transported parts to Su-27, Su-30SM jets.

ETA
quote:

“A Russian combat helicopter Mi-8 together with the entire crew arrived in Ukraine and surrendered to the Armed Forces,” Yuriy Butusov reports. Russian air force related channels said the helicopter got lost due to navigational errors..

This looks to be the first deliberate surrender of such equipment by the Russian Federation.

Yeah…makes me wonder who the two crew members who “did not know where they were going” actually were.

I just cannot see Ukraine causing a mass casualty event(s) in crimea, and Russia not making Kiev glow. A drone or rocket here and there is one thing, but that is totally different. Ymmv

Would still probably be easier and cheaper to just buy them from a third party or manufacture the parts themselves.

depends on what the part are. it was reported that the majority of the old russian jets that the Czech's gave Ukraine were mainly for parts salvage.

I can't imagine the time this guy puts into following this war.

It's unhealthy.

Poring over maps and strategizing like some general.

It's truly bizarre.

I think he needs help.

I can't see Ukraine wanting to cause such an event unless it involves enemy soldiers. And still Russia isn't going to start lobbing Nukes. We've been over it many times on why they won't.

how do they deal with people who have collaborated primarily out of selfless interests or due to being trapped by circumstance as it appears in Oleksiy Levchenko's case from the article

They literally made a whole governmental divison to deal with this

The messy part is that there are a lot of Russians in Ukraine and a lot of Ukrainians in Russia.

Ukraine can make it untenable for Russia to hold onto Crimea. The question is whether they will or not.

Just curious how many people here think Ukraine is getting back Crimea in the next 5 years.

War is unpredictable. If it were obvious how the conflict would end, then you'd have at least one side asking for a ceasefire.

It is certainly possible, though, to imagine a struggle for power in the Kremlin -- Prigozhin already showed us how possible that is. And a Russian struggle for power could obviously result in Ukraine retaking Crimea.

But I do believe that the questions of Putin and Crimea are tied together. One won't happen without the other.

Agree.. I don't see Crimea coming back to Ukraine as long as Putin is sitting in the drivers seat.

Ooops. This should make things interesting.
Of course Russia will probably say it was accidental and jail a few military leaders who will be scape goats
