A few analysts are starting to think the northern thing is a distraction, the southern action is the actual goal.
The southern AO has the rest of the offshore oil/gas fields not gained when they took Crimea. The Crimean water source and the southern half of the country has the intercountry pipelines and shale oil fields. This area also provides the land bridge to the Transdniestria separatist enclave in Moldova.
The majority of the things Putin really wants are in the southern part of Ukraine.

seems so.. several pro-russian twitters showing video of the northern units; chechen and dudes from their far east with ancient soviet equipment. they're breaking down, running out of gas, doing stupid thunder runs and getting wrecked, etc. i was in the mechanized infantry.. what i'm seeing is a complete joke. their air force also seems to be just sitting out the northern advance also.
southern units are the more professional, better equipped etc.

You want to hear something funny about that TV station/antenna the Russians tried to hit? All they did was damage the base of the broadcast antenna. There was a good bit of smoke, but after it cleared the damn thing was still standing and Broadcasting.
I was wondering if that really took it out. It looked like all it did was hit the steel support structure. It didn't look like it did much damage at all and I wondered if it was still running.

So does this First Guards Tank Army turn west towards Odessa now?

We have actually seen a stated goal for the Southern effort. Linking with Crimea. It seems as though the next step was to surround and lay siege to Mariupol. Once they had the city surrounded, citizens were given warning to evacuate because they intended to escalate the indiscriminate barrage that bad been going on.

I have seen rumors that there was a failed amphibious landing/invasion at Odessa. It is well defended, and the word was that some of the Russian Navy refused to land, stating it was akin to a suicide mission. I haven't gone looking for updates on that situation yet. OSINTDefender has some stuff about that.

I saw that it was still able to broadcast. I never saw 100% confirmation that it was broadcasting. It definitely wasn't destroyed, at least not beyond a relatively easy repair.

I haven't seen anything saying it's broadcasting and they hit the building near the tower base that likely contained the transmitting equipment.

heard Parkinson’s for about a year now. And I realize the disease can be different in people, with different physical symptoms. But his speech and motor functions seem the same as always in footage that doesn’t look edited.
My sources say it’s Parkinson’s but they can be a bit shaky

Russia lost another 25k troops and Ukraine is now milly rocking on dead bodies.
Holy shite if that’s true. Russia on pace to lose more in 2 weeks than the US lost in all of WW1 or Vietnam

They’re the most advanced in the world. The thing is it’s incredibly difficult to defend against an ICBM.
And my math was wrong originally. It’s 86% to stop all 7, not 59%.
Don't forget nations have every reason in the world to OVERstate their offensive capabilities but every reason in the world to UNDERstate their defensive capabilities.

I went to high school with that girl. She was a couple of grades older so never had any classes. Just saw her around.
She ended being 3rd in that competition so she must've done pretty well to bomb a question that badly and still do so well.
I remember that, her and the comp - Didnt go to school with her. I get they’re not exactly there for debate competition but good God it was embarrassing af.

What is it that’s so important in southern Ukraine compared to the capital?
Connecting Crimea to Russia-controlled areas

Rummy pulling a full on Russian blitz from the south. Knocked out both of my gifs like the ghost of Kiev

So is taking part of Eastern Ukraine regions that connect to Crimea, along with no NATO membership, what Putin would go for and accept if possible? Obviously we don't know what's in his head but is that the play?

Then why the extended play for Kyiv?

That was always the guess, but then he started going for Kyiv and people started to question just how far West he was eyeing.
Odds are that's what Russia ends up with, possibly as far west as Kyiv, and they declare themselves champions of the world while their economy crashes and the oligarch class loses their wealth and reputation (to quote The Last Kingdom)

Kiev is the largest city, by quite a bit I think, in Ukraine so it will take longer. Plus, they are holding them by the nose at Kiev while they come north from Crimea.
