Looks like Russians are smashing the Ukrainians near Kreminna heading towards Torske.

Ukraine really needs to hold Torske. If they get pushed back past the Zherebets River (I'm not looking up the spelling), it will be very, very hard to get back across and retake the settlement, or eventually make a push at Kreminna.

Makes me want to give them an early Christmas present. A GBU-27 Paveway would be a wonderful gift that he and his colleagues could share and enjoy together!

I assume people openly cheering for the Russians have been paid to brainwash the social media masses.

Integrating European industry and energy dependence with Russian energy is the exact type of integration my belief system should support. I’m just pointing out that in this particular case, the nordstream projects seemed more likely to create a relationship of leverage that would fuel/excuse conflict rather than a relationship of co-dependence that would diffuse conflict.

Gazprom had been playing Enron games with "outages" for sometime. German heavy industry has been on the downhill for 20 years. It's steel industry had shutdown numerous mills by 2005. It's chemical industry, including the little bit of fertilizers it made, were increasingly grown by capital investment in the USA and China, not in Germany. Nordstream was really for Germany, not France. The giant gas field in the Netherlands still remains, though a few farmhouses have had issues with land subsidence.

What has kept German industry afloat, more than anything else, is German banks loaning money to PIGS with the caveat that they use German goods and services.

The Brotherhood pipeline system, through Ukraine, is what Austria, Hungary, et al relied on.

Commander of 58th Combined Arms Army of Southern Military District, Major General Ivan Popov (Spartak), wrote down an appeal where he announced his resignation from his post and the reasons for it.

Popov reports that he raised questions about lack of counter-battery combat, artillery reconnaissance stations and supplys, as result, death of Russian soldiers in connection with this.

According to major general, issues raised by him at the highest level led to his lightning resignation in one day.

"Our enemy could not be broken through front of Armed Forces of Russia, we were hit from rear by senior commanders (Alluding to Gerasimov and Shoigu)
Treacherously and vilely decapitating army at most difficult and tense moment," Popov summed up.

This is interesting. I didn't think that they were allowed to quit.

It was already obvious that a deal was made today. Biden simply wants to delay the announcement for some reason. This just makes the obviousness even more blinding.

I didn't realize that she was in Zelensky's political party -- they have now kicked her out.

Another fun fact: she was head of the parliamentary ethics subcommittee.

While I don't dispute that Ukraine has corruption issues I do have to give it to them, they don't mess around once it is exposed.

While this can partially due to war time necessity and optics I have seen far worse done in my home country and all they got was a slap on the wrist.

Also every time I see the banner behind here I think of the Ferengi in Star Trek: DS9, which is kinda apt given what she did.

Stanislav Rzhytskiy, deputy head of mobilization department in Russian Krasnodar, was shot while out for a run. He has been posting his runs on Strava recently. One of his recent runs was liked by an account purportedly held by Kyrylo Budanov. BTW he has been around lately, wonder if the ones that were sure he was dead know this.

If the below is accurate, uhhhh... what Border Guard doing? Jokes aside the strike appears to have worked at causing concern - if that was its intent (along with taking out a bad dude).

Denisenko is the one in the blue jacket. As the CEPA article points out, they moved to his arrest very quickly and his age (64) does not correlate with the circulated CCTV footages estimated age (30-40) however he does look in great shape for 64 which could account for the inaccurate estimate.

Rascists began realising that the hero Serhiy Denisenko who eliminated the rascist child murderer and submarine officer in Krasnodar travelled freely to Russia even after attending an event dedicated to the defenders of Ukraine in Bucha.

https://cepa.org/article/are-ukraines-spies-treading-in-mossads-footsteps/

quote:

Whether Ukrainian intelligence agents assassinated Russian naval Captain of the Second Rank Stanislav Rzhitsky while he was out jogging on the morning of July 12, the story will certainly have ricocheted around the country’s military establishment.

Rzhitsky, 42, was shot four times while running near the Olympus Arena in Krasnodar, which is about 80 miles from the Black Sea naval base at Novorossiysk. He was reported to have formerly commanded the newly commissioned Kilo-class submarine Krasnodar, which carries the Kalibr cruise missiles used against numerous targets in Ukraine.

The vessel was reportedly behind a July 14, 2022 Kalibr attack on Vinnytsia, which resulted in the deaths of 27 Ukrainians including children. That resulted in Rzhitsky being added to an unofficial Ukrainian blacklist of those held responsible for war crimes.

“Today in Krasnodar, Stanislav Rzhitsky, deputy head of the department for mobilization work of the city administration, was shot in the back,” former mayor of the city Evgeny Pervyshov wrote on his Telegram channel. “I knew him as the commander of the Krasnodar submarine.”

Much remains unclear. Russian security agencies have blamed Ukraine and on July 12 arrested a Ukrainian national named Sergei Denisenko, 64, a former head of Ukraine’s karate association who is living in Russia. As with other alleged acts by Ukrainian intelligence, the response was swift and the immediately supplied backstory was quite detailed (Denysenko was claimed to have been in Bucha, near Kyiv, last year.)

But as always with Russian criminal investigations, the authorities swiftly contradicted themselves. Police quickly circulated a still CCTV image of a suspect. “The suspect was described as a man in his 30s or 40s with a medium build, wearing a black T-shirt and a blue cap. The man’s face is not visible,” Baza reported. And less than 24 hours, the suspect in Krasnodar was detained, although actually aged 64, according to the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee.

The video (same as GOP_Tiger's) in this one has subs added for anyone wanting more context. I can't attest to their accuracy and I prefer video instead of a still image with voice over, though Constantine is usually fairly reliable

https://twitter.com/Teoyaomiquu/status/1679239805094313987 - Video

quote:

Russian major general Ivan Popov (58th combined arms Air Defense Army) recorded a message saying that he was relieved from duty from his position.

Please listen below to the audio; I've added subtitles.

He says he is removed for telling the truth to the high command.

He complains that they don't have counter-battery capabilities and means of recon.

He then accuses the higher command of stabbing them in the back by beheading the army in the most trying times.

Edit: Clarity

I know intellectually that this is not indicative of all Russians. I also know, especially extended, combat can bring out the feral nature in otherwise normal people but things like this push me to the point of making it difficult not to see this as just being Russia because of the red mist it brings on.

This is one of the few if only scenarios that would have led me to summarily execute one of my soldiers and worry about the damn UCMJ another day. I do hope that every one of my other soldiers would have lied like a rug to keep my arse out of the jackpot.

This is the kind of fricked up mindset you get when a standard fraternal military "punishment" for being a frickup is getting your fellow soldier's dicks rubbed on your lips.

Here is a transcript of Gen. Popov's speech from @wartranslated:

quote:

"A difficult situation with the leadership emerged. It was a choice between remaining silent and afraid and saying what they wanted to hear, or calling things for what they are. In your name, in the name of all perished comrades-in-arms, I didn’t have the right to lie. Hence I named all the problems that exist today in the army regarding operations, supply. I pointed the attention to the most important tragedy of the modern war - the lack of counter-battery fire, lack of artillery reconnaissance stations, and mass casualties and injuries of our brothers from enemy artillery.

I also raised a number of other issues, expressed them to the highest levels, did it openly and very brutally. Due to this, the seniors likely felt some danger in me and instantly, in one day, put together an order to the Minister of Defence and got rid of me.

As many commanders of regiments and divisions said today, our army was not broken through the front, but our most senior commander hit us in the back, thus treacherously beheading the army in the most difficult period."

As a number of people have pointed out, Gen. Popov organized the Russian resistance on the Tokmak axis, which has generally been regarded as very capable.

The classic German "stabbed in the back" theory. This war keeps on rhyming with WWI and WWII.

Really interesting. Zelensky is such a compelling public figure, but one reads this kind of thing regularly. He and his team are not particularly good diplomats. The anger from Zelensky yesterday about the text of the NATO invitation was ridiculous.

Yesterday, Zelensky attacked Biden. Today, he will ask him for ATACMS. Doesn't seem like good strategy.

I am on Zelensky's side in this, Wallace, in these comments, comes across as a snobbish colonial Brit who expects to have his arse kissed. Good job by Sunak for reeling him in.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/rishi-sunak-ukraine-ben-wallace-volodymyr-zelensky-defence-secretary-b2374019.html

quote:

The Prime Minister has shut down comments by the Defence Secretary after Ben Wallace suggested Ukraine should show “gratitude” for the military support it has been given.

Rishi Sunak said Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky had “repeatedly expressed gratitude” for what the UK had done for Kyiv since Russia’s invasion broke out more than 500 days ago.

Mr Wallace, in comments to reporters at the Nato summit in Vilnius, suggested Mr Zelensky needed to be mindful about keeping “doubting politicians” in the US on-side, particularly with a presidential election coming up next year.

The former Scots Guard said some allies providing defensive aid to Kyiv “want to see gratitude”.

But Mr Sunak, in a push back against his Cabinet minister, said the Ukrainian people were “incredibly grateful for the support we have shown”.

Mr Zelensky said he did not know what Mr Wallace “meant”, as he said his country was “always grateful” to Britain.

Many Western allies, including president Joe Biden’s Washington administration and the UK Government, have been vocal backers of Ukraine.

The UK in particular has been at the forefront of Western states in sending weapons and defensive equipment to the war-torn country.

Speaking at a press briefing after the two day summit in the Lithuanian capital, Mr Sunak said: “President Zelensky has expressed his gratitude for what we have done on a number of occasions, not least in his incredibly moving address that he made to Parliament earlier this year and he has done so again to me, as he has done countless times when I have met him.

“So I know that he and his people are incredibly grateful for the support we have shown, the welcome that we have provided to many Ukrainian families, but also the leadership we have shown throughout this conflict.”

Mr Sunak stressed that the Ukrainian people were “paying a terrible price” during the invasion and that he understood Mr Zelensky’s “desire to do everything he can to protect his people”.

Speaking at a later press conference, Mr Zelensky said through a translator: “I believe that we were always grateful to United Kingdom.

“I don’t know what he (Mr Wallace) meant and how else we should be grateful.

“Maybe the minister wants something special, but I think that we have a wonderful relations.”

I knew little of Zelensky prior to the war but much of what I have seen has impressed me. He could have left the country and hid safe elsewhere, but instead he has held it together while constantly being on the road to drum up support and rally the troops, all the while under the spectre that Russia would only need to get lucky once to take him out.

Is he blunt in what he says at times? Sure, but he is functioning in a wartime capacity. He doesn't have time to blather round greasing palms to make others feel good about themselves, he has people dying daily and needs to impress that upon people who are sitting well removed from the realities so they, in their well entrenched bureaucracies, don't drag their feet too long.

If, because of this, he is a little light on the praise at times I think it is understandable, and frankly while he might keep it short he always seems to express it, at least from what I have observed.

I generally shy away making overly emotional statements regarding the war as it clouds objectivity but in this case - Wallace should shove something sharp and pointy up his backside. One look at the way Zelensky has aged since this began shows how much weight the guy has shouldered, and the fact he has carried it this well so far, only deserves respect in my view.

Edit: Further information has show that Wallace may have been represented by the media so disregard my more colourful statements regarding his attitude and posterior.

That would correlate with what he said in the video - he sounds far more competent than many of the regular talking heads and is exactly the sort of commander Russia needs more of to be successful.

This looks very much like the stereotypical removal of a good commander for voicing concerns because he didn't go along with the herd and uphold the illusion like he was meant to. Unfortunately that this is a huge part of the reason Russia has had so many issues in a war they should easily have concluded before the West pulled its finger out speaks to how bad things have gotten internally.

Also important to remember Wallace is on the short list to replace the current NATO commander when he retires next year.

Comments like these will not bring about the unity the alliance needs. He could've just axed his chance.
