I’m not sure how people who consider themselves conservative can go full blown tankie with this conflict.

Its the normalization of 'Orange man bad' politics.

When one side did it, it became fair game for the mirroring behavior to happen. So, we get people who despise the current administration, puppeting the same kind of things, even when the gist of what a horrific administration is doing, actually stumbles over the right policy.

Look, Biden's a clown shoes shite show of the Nth degree, but he's not fricked up Ukraine yet. I'll quibble and disagree with things like the timetables with which he's done stuff, but on the whole, good job not being a shite show in yet another area.

Old Man Bad is just Orange Man Bad in a different, still gross wrapper.

No, we really don't want Wagner to win. That's a terrible outcome.

What we want is for Wagner to do just well enough that Russia has to pull large numbers of troops out of Ukraine to defeat him.

So just a wild thought but could the West just pay Wagner boatloads of money to turn on the Russians?

Haha yeah we don’t have a track record of arming people that really shouldn’t have been armed

Don’t get me wrong I’m not going full poliboard here, I’ve just seen this movie before and know how it ends

Hmm. Seems Girkin has revised his assessment and is now more optimistic.

Can anyone explain the significance of Wagner going to Rostov-on-don?

I don’t know of any violent outcome in Moscow that would be “better” or remotely good.

Is it possible that the little Russian “separatists” group demonstrated that Russia cannot defend itself internally due to the commitment of all of their troops in Ukraine? Perhaps that little demonstration showed that an actually move to Moscow was possible.

Twitter is insane right now with reports coming in much faster than can be digested or confirmed. If this is real, there may be good cause for the Russian MOD to recall troops from Ukraine ASAP, leading to possible collapse of the front.

Two weeks ago, we were fussing at Ukraine for allowing the MaxxPros that we gave them to be used by the Russian Volunteer Corps in their little border incursion.

Speaking of them, I expect them to go back into Belgorod Oblast tomorrow. They absolutely need to take advantage of this.

It's a major trading hub for Russia via the Don River and to the Black Sea.

I believe this is where the HQis located for the Russian MoD’s war in Ukraine

I still question if WG goal is to topple MoD leadership and not Putin. Will see if these reported columns head towards Moscow or stay in Rostov

I think it's probably fair to call it the main military base area for Russian troops in the war. Troops and aid go through Rostov on the way to Mariupol, Bakhmut, etc.

So, taking it would aid very much in taking control of the Russian military apparatus. If Wagner is going to succeed, they need ammo, supplies, and a base to operate from, so taking Rostov is the first step -- and a key objective if they are going to convince Russian military units to join them.
