There was a regular at Prejean's Lounge in Lake Charles who fought in Burma as a horse cavalry soldier. His name was Matthew McSpangler but everyone called him Mac.

Key Takeaways

Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive actions on at least four sectors of the front.

A delegation representing seven African states met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg following a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky on June 16 to propose a generalized peace plan focused on resuming international trade.

The Kremlin will likely exploit this proposal to promote Russian information operations aiming to slow Western security assistance to Ukraine and has not demonstrated any intent to meaningfully engage with any peace process.

Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin continued to signal his disinterest in formally subordinating the Wagner private military company (PMC) to the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

The New York Times (NYT) released a report supporting ISW’s prior assessment that Russian forces most likely destroyed the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) dam.

Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks on the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, and Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted localized ground attacks west and south of Kreminna.

Russian forces and Ukrainian forces continued limited attacks in the Bakhmut area and on the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line.

Russian forces continued offensive operations near Vuhledar likely in response to Ukrainian territorial gains in the area on June 16.

Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations near the administrative border between western Donetsk and eastern Zaporizhia oblasts.

Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces intensified attacks in western Zaporizhia Oblast.

The Kremlin continues efforts to gradually mobilize Russia’s defense industrial base (DIB).

Russian officials are planning several infrastructure projects connecting occupied Zaporizhia Oblast to occupied Crimea, likely to secure new ground lines of communication (GLOCs) for the Russian grouping in southern Ukraine.

Im a little at a loss of words right now with Budanov and Ukrainian intelligence. He’s a smart guy but everyone and their mother knows that Russia has brought another squadron of Ka-52 attack helicopters as well as being a FOB for some of their Su-25s up to Berdyans’k airfield. Why he hasn’t sent at leas a few storm shadows that way is a little perplexing. Not much of a more high priority target than that. Russia has them properly spaced out from one another but I don’t see how you don’t launch some sort of attack on the closest enemy airfield.

He cannot survive a humiliating defeat, and neither can the modern Russian state. Anything other than a victory that gets him Crimea and the Donbas as ceded territories means the end of Putin and the end of Russia. His enemies will come out from every direction. And he knows it, which is why he's all in.

One thing for sure is we will likely find out soon enough, its certainly the media talking point.

Simplest answer is likely the correct one and the simplest answer is they have higher value targets in mind.

Like what? Ka-52's are a nightmare for Ukraine right now and there is currently no answer for them. I actually did see earlier today on a Russian channel that intelligence has learned of an impending Storm Shadow attack at the bases where the Ka-52s are operating out of, trying to find it.

I've been reading some stuff that indicates that the intensity has really picked up today south of Tokmak. One Russian source was boasting that the total number of destroyed Ukrainian vehicles today would end up looking like those of the first day of fighting there.

Is this what you saw?

Clarify? Russian or Ukrainian intelligence is trying to find out what?

Maybe they don’t want to waste them because the airfield is protected by anti air missiles?

Russian intelligence reports that the AFU is preparing a series of strikes with Storm Shadows at the Berdyansk airport and other military airfields that the helicopters are operating out of.

Doesn't seem to be working out so well. The Ka-52s are having success firing out of MANPADS range, at least the last couple weeks.

Yes, they were a factor in the 47th's initial losses and in several since. They can effectively fire ATGMs at significantly further than MANPAD range.

I think that they are responsible for at least five kills of Bradleys and Leopards.

Either yesterday or the day before, Ukraine boasted that they shot one down, but I don't think they provided any video proof.

Had my father not been shipped to Tampa as a B26B flight instructor instead of flying "The Hump," I probably wouldn't be here.

I heard the quip, "One a day in Tampa Bay" many times as a kid when instructor friends gathered.

Damn. Whatever they hit made big boom.

I was thinking today how shocked I am that Russia hasn’t managed to hit any of the western supplies before it makes it to the front.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 18 June 2023

In recent days, heavy fighting has continued, with the most intense combat focused in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, western Donetsk Oblast, and around Bakhmut.

In all these areas, Ukraine continues to pursue offensive operations and has made small advances.

In the south, Russian forces often conduct relatively effective defensive operations. Both sides are suffering high casualties, with Russian losses likely the highest since the peak of the battle for Bakhmut in March.

18.06.2023 08:38

Ukrainian forces also destroyed seven enemy Orlan-10, Orlan-30, Zala and Supercam reconnaissance UAVs, according to the post.

I think that this is the first video that we have from inside a Bradley in action, taking out targets.
