Leopardsisters how could this happen??? I was told Russian tanks only get knocked out because they're poor quality

I've often been curious how this works. Do they have people on the ground confirming this stuff, or are they relying on pics and videos sent in to them? Probably a dumb question.

WAR! The reality SUCKS. Sharing this but it is not for the faint of heart. I wish I had not watched.
One Ukrainian soldier, still alive and conscious, with his jaw ripped out of his face, screaming in pain - albeit with no tongue or functioning mouth.
Another Ukraine soldier with his leg ripped open all along his thigh, shattered arms, who bled-out for so long, his face is ghastly ghost-white. In Ukrainian, he is telling the Russians "just kill me now."
WARNING: This video contains horrifying, graphic, battlefield injury footage, which YOU CANNOT UN-SEE if you view it.
DO NOT WATCH THIS!!!

At least his personnel numbers have dropped from 3,000-3,500/day to only 350-1,500 personnel losses a day.
Yeah, Ukrainian sources are still very much keeping OPSEC and not saying anything. Pretty much everything we know about the offensive is coming from Russian sources.
The Russian MoD is obviously a trash source, but some of the milbloggers are fairly honest.

I saw this video the other day. My understanding was the medic was a Ukrainian civilian who was not really trained and thrown into the war. The jaw guy is recovering and actually looked pretty good and it was said he had some upcoming plastic surgeries. Not sure what happened to the ghost white guy but I don't think they were captured.

fricking idiot. That’s a Ukrainian medic’s helmet cam. Not a Russian.
Another day where the blind squirrel can’t find it’s nut.
This just in - war is hell and infantrymen suffer horrible injuries in war.

Man, that's tough. Watching that video with some EMT training in my background, I said he needed to stop twisting at one point and he gave it about 3 more turns and broke the strap on the tourniquet. Not sure why he moved to the arm before putting nother on his thigh, but I knew he had too much tension before that first one broke.
As hard as it is for some to watch that kind of stuff, I've always thought it important that people be able to watch if they choose to have some sort of grasp in the reality of what these weapons we have created do to people. It's certainly not pretty, but important to understand. And thank God for the medics that do that job and save the ones they can. Countless men have gotten to go home to their families instead of perishing on the ground.

I do wonder why Ukrainians with NATO training, albeit a quick training, would have their armor so tightly packed together when they know they don’t have the same number in planes or artillery as the Russians. Not a tanker so maybe one of our guys on here could explain but it seems to me that would be right around lesson #1 in how not to get blown up. Losses are to be expected but there’s no reason they should be that close together. That’s a pure…..Russian move……

video looks like the tanks were en route somewhere and I’m guessing the tankers got lazy/in a hurry

That's pretty incredible if the guy with the wounds to his arms and leg survived like they're saying in that reddit thread. The guy with the facial wound was never in any serious danger of dying from that kind of wound even as bad as it looked.
The other guy, however, did NOT look good at all when the video ended. He was sheet white and looked to have lost consciousness a couple times. Hypovolemic shock (low blood volume in the body) would certainly be a concern and it is very bad sign most of the time.

Its more likely the same reason you see russian columns doing the same thing after a year of this war…
Mines. Both sides have been using AT mines a lot.

I figured that guy’s femoral artery had to have been severed. Gruesome looking. As bad as the facial wound guy looked that was really more cosmetic.

You kinda get the feeling that wherever the lines end up after these operations from Ukraine have culminated, is where they will stay.
Ukraine will get F16s in a few months and both countries will be over it.

Thought this was a nice rundown of the first couple days of the counter offensive. With Ukraine committing tanks it does seem like the main thrust is starting.
Most of this info has been posted in here over the last day but it’s a nice aggregation of early reports (all to be taken with heaps of salt)

And I found this article to be pretty interesting on how this whole thing ends, which echoes a lot of what Stephen Kotkin has previously said.
“These largely immutable factors could well produce a drawn-out hot war between Russia and Ukraine. Indeed, history suggests that is the most likely outcome. A study from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, using data from 1946 to 2021 compiled by Uppsala University, found that 26 percent of interstate wars end in less than a month and another 25 percent within a year. But the study also found that “when interstate wars last longer than a year, they extend to over a decade on average.”

Gosh, that's a horrible thought. I was going by personal experience and after all these years I must have forgotten that.
Maybe I should try one of your computer "WAR" games to remind me.
Have any suggestions, that aren't too graphic, if you don't mind?
