If they actually shot down a Kinzhal, Ukraine would be posting definitive evidence/pictures in a heartbeat and why wouldn't they? First they say there wasn't even a missile launched that night and then they backtrack with whatever the hell this is. There have been about 20 pictures of this warhead and zero pictures of parts unique to a Kinzhal, why?

They didn't post a picture - you were the one that screen shot the video which documents several pieces in addition to the penetrator warhead and then claimed they must be bluffing.

Several of those match the size and shape of parts of a Kinzhal quite definitively.

This is weak from you, you usually bring at least credible counter points to the thread, do better.

Do you not know that the Patriot calculates the flight path and speed of its target in its fire control system? Not sure but Russia doesn’t have a lot of hypersonic missiles. Just the speed alone of what the Patriot shot down would tell you it was a Kinzhal since there is nothing else in their arsenal capable of what it does. The picture is just a piece of the missile and it’s burned and blown up so I’m not judging by the picture I’d rather judge by hard data.

It is a good read, and wow, a 76 year old guy in a recon unit!

I too have been following along with this fellow. He is extremely knowledgeable on many topics and you can learn a lot from him. So far he has had no really serious and life threatening injuries over there, however, he still takes the same risks and I get really concerned when there are no new reports for an extended period of time.

Also, not a true hypersonic missile due it goes ballistic to use the earth's gravity to get to hypersonic speed. It does have guidance during reentry to take off at an angle for its target if directed to.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 11 May 2023

Since the start of 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has ramped up a scheme to recruit Russian prisoners to fight in Ukraine. It is likely that up to 10,000 convicts signed up in April 2023 alone.

From summer 2022, prisoners were the key pool of recruits for the Wagner Group private military company's expansive operations in Ukraine. However, the group highly likely lost access to the Russian penal system in February 2023 when its public feud with the MoD was escalating.

The MoD's prisoner recruitment campaign is part of a broader, intense effort by the Russian military to bolster its numbers, while attempting to avoid implementing new mandatory mobilisation, which would be very unpopular with the Russian public.

Exclusive: Britain has delivered long-range ‘Storm Shadow’ cruise missiles to Ukraine ahead of expected counteroffensive, sources say

By Jim Sciutto, Chief National Security Correspondent

The United Kingdom has supplied Ukraine with multiple Storm Shadow cruise missiles, giving Ukrainian forces a new long-range strike capability in advance of a highly anticipated counteroffensive against Russian forces, multiple senior Western officials told CNN.

Great news. Maybe waiting for these missiles is one of the reasons for the delay.

We have to now assume the issues with launching them from the current Ukrainian aircraft have been (suddenly) resolved. As they are air-launched and have a 300-km range, this puts the Kerch Bridge within range of the present Ukrainian positions. Much closer as the aircraft flies South.

That dive into the Ukrainian Situational Hole just got deeper.

Now that the UK has provided long range missiles will the U.S. do the same?

Similar to us providing Abrams only after the Europeans provided their own tanks?

Russia is in deep, deep trouble. I thought it was clear, back in February, that this was going to happen, and we talked about it extensively at that time. But I think that Ukraine wanted to keep it on the down-low, so that Russia didn't start proactively moving installations.

Now, in many cases, it's too late. That tank repair yard with some 50 armored vehicles in it? It's toast. Etc. That big radar installation just out of HIMARS range? Gone.

It might not mean the immediate destruction of the Kerch Bridge, however. If Ukraine is getting the "export version" of the missile, it would have a range of 155 miles, and Ukraine's position in Zaporizhzhia is currently some 10-15 miles further away from the bridge than that. Sevastopol might also be just a few miles out of range from Kherson.

A lot, obviously, hinges on the question of how many missiles Ukraine is getting.

Then we air drop thousands of Infiniti QX80s behind lines and watch the Asian Chinese soldiers driving them (poorly) clog up all the Russian supply lines.

No, we won't. This was not the only article that I read last fall about Biden-Xi negotiations, but it is indicative of the kinds of talks that have been taken place throughout the war.

LINK

quote:

Beijing’s aim was to ensure that even if there were a political decision to use nukes, the Russian army would insist on sticking to its long-standing nuclear military doctrine to use them solely if provoked by attacks on Russian soil. Through these unofficial ‘track two’ contacts, Washington and the PLA agreed – unusually, given a deterioration in relations during the Donald Trump presidency – that if the US stopped the MiG deal, Beijing’s generals would do their best to defuse Putin’s nuclear threat on an operational level. ‘It worked,’ said the Chinese source. ‘The [US] decided that supplying aircraft was a step too far.’

From the other stuff I read at the time (which I can't find at the moment), the broader, more general agreement was that China would not provide military aid to Russia if the US did not provide jets or long-range weaponry. In addition, China would make it clear to Russia that any discussion of using nukes in Ukraine was unacceptable.

And that has basically held. I can't be sure if the Biden-Xi deal was a good one for Ukraine, because it's impossible to know exactly what military aid China would have otherwise sent to Russia. But China did stop Russia from freaking the world out about WWIII and a nuclear Armageddon.

I think it's clear that there's still a version of that deal in place, so we aren't sending F-16s or ATACMS. The US can't control what other countries do with their own weapons, though, so Storm Shadow is a way out of the dilemma.

For those who haven't been keeping up with this thread for long, this was the discussion in December:

LINK

quote:

The Ukrainian Su-24 bomber sent to Poland to be upgraded to NATO tactical missiles is being prepared for tests.

The Su-24 front-line bomber of the Ukrainian Air Force was modernized by Polish specialists to be able to launch tactical cruise missiles of the NATO standard. At the moment, it is known that we are talking about Storm Shadow and SCALP missiles. It is known that the bomber will be equipped with one missile capable of hitting targets at distances up to 300 kilometers. At the same time, sources note that the installation of the rocket itself and equipment in the cockpit for its launch have already been made, however, tests are required, which should begin either next year, or even before the end of this year.

So, all the technical details were worked out months ago, and all of Ukraine's SU-24s have been adapted to fire these missiles.
