Maybe we'll give Ukraine ATACMS or cluster munitions now.

My guess is this has zero affect on our Ukraine policy.

That's not a slight, I just think America being self-righteous about downing a drone whereas we've been working earnestly and spending billions in treasure to facilitate the killing of thousands of Russians is a bit absurd

We'll play the card, of course, but I'm sure it will seem ridiculous to anyone semi-neutral.

Russia's war of choice seems ridiculous to anyone semi-neutral.

But yea, I agree there's no need to blow this up as some insane provocation.

but this is nothing new for either side.

We sent supplies to opposition in Afghanistan in the 70s/80s

russia (USSR) sent planes and pilots to Korean war and Vietnam war, as well as training, intel and weapons

also throw in smaller proxy wars since the end of WWII. this is just standard geopolitics....

But incidents like this is what sparked the shooting down a korean air flight 7 by the USSR bask in 1983....

"I respect the strength, bravery, and indomitability of our soldiers in Bakhmut. The defensive operation in this sector is of paramount strategic importance for deterring the enemy. It is key to the stability of the defense of the entire front," Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny posted on Telegram.

Nah. Russia is the one facilitating the killing of thousands of Russians. If they go home, no more Russians die

Newer mines can be controlled remotely. They can be configured without a contact plate. Let the BMP go by then the tank behind goes boom.

I was just making a facetious post considering literally everything we do has a certain subset of people crying about us provoking Russia and if the roles were reversed here, wed have people rushing into this thread to shite all over it

and that will end any time Russia wants it to

Putin just took down a piece of American military equipment that was being operated by the US in international waters with a Russian aircraft that was being piloted by a Russian

Calm down. Its Cold War-esque gamesmanship, and there are no broader implications than that.

The drone was occupied by Nazi pedophiles who were using it as a bio-weapons lab. It had to be taken down as it was an existential threat to the peaceable Russian peoples. And besides, the Black Sea is part of Russia historically.

quote:

Russia denies its plane came into contact with the MQ-9. Also tries to box off international airspace. 'They accused the US of violating the boundaries of its temporary airspace "established for the special military operation"...' Good luck with that.
quote:

Drone got stressed and threw itself into the sea. 'Russia says it scrambled its aircraft to identify the intruder, but due to quick manoeuvring, the MQ-9 drone went into an "unguided flight with a loss of altitude and collided with the water surface".'

BBC: "The Russian ambassador to the US has been summoned and is expected to meet senior US officials this afternoon local US time"

See, Russia could have apologized for downing the drone, but complaining that a drone operating in international airspace is "violating the boundaries of their temporary airspace for their special military operation"?

Uh, no. That ain't gonna cut it, Ruskies.

LINK

quote:

"There was [a] deliberate intent to interfere with the MQ-9, but the collision seems to be simple incompetence," an Air Force official separately told The War Zone

I don't know how much difference that makes.

To be honest, the drone attempting a dramatic maneuver and departing controlled flight is more plausible than the SU-27 running into its propeller.

Eh, it doesn't really matter. A Russian fighter jet downed a drone. Send another drone, this time with a military jet escort.

Oh I’m sure we’ve already sent more drones. And I’m pretty sure we’ve had fighters patrolling the Black Sea all along

Russia can’t get out of their own way. They are just thugs. Can’t wait to see if they have the balls to try this again. I’m betting they won’t dare. But I’ll trade a MQ-9 to take out one of their Su-27s every single day of the week.
