American jets will not be engaging Russian jets over an MQ-9. It’s one of the great things about drones. We can sacrifice them without having to risk escalating a conflict over their loss.

Is it just me, or do most Ukrainian soldiers look about 45 years old in most pics I see from the front?

I read they've been using territorial defence troops and holding back the regulars for the counteroffensive. Or maybe that's all they have left. Who knows.

Back on the ground… collaborator Ivan Tkach, head of Melitopol city transport and owner of a large transport company that helped move Russian assets, passed away after his vehicle mysteriously went kaboom.

It’s just something I’ve noticed. Are younger Ukrainians not as enthusiastic about fighting Russians as the older generations?

If you look at most pictures of front line troops through history they are normally very young. Does you Ukraine have an aging population?

I know they have a low birthrate and high outward immigration, and did even before the war.

In fairness after only a week in combat I looked at least 10 years older and felt 20 years older. The lack of sleep, modest hygiene, shitty food, and constant cycling of adrenaline highs and adrenaline dumps beat the shite out of you. A month or so of the type of combat they are seeing will turn the fresh-faced visage of a boy into the mask of Methusala.

I guess most of the pictures I’m seeing are of mortar and artillery units. Maybe Ukraine is putting the older fricks in those units. Not that arty or mortars are a young man’s game but a I guess a little easier on the knees than riflemen.

Just figure that if there was a demographic that would be more open to a union with Russia, it would be those who actually lived in the soviet union as opposed to those who grew up in a free and independent ukraine

Ancient? Yes, but not unknown. This particular individual is an American volunteer fighting for the Ukranians and in the thick of it. He is 72 years old, a veteran of Viet Nam and subsequent conflicts, and his specialty is small squad intelligence gathering operations behind the enemy lines. A recent report of a conversation with him as posted by an acquaintance here in the U.S. LINK
