Even if Biden announced f-16s to Ukraine you’re talking about an absolute minimum of 6 months to get their pilots trained on proper tactics and weapons systems
How do we know that they aren't already training pilots and just as important, ground crews?

Someone really brought a Qadaffi poster to the rally:

Why is this important? It could give Putin a legal reason to declare war on Ukraine in his upcoming address.
What difference would this make? Maybe they would convene a special committee or something? Their entire military is already engaged.

Martial law makes it easier to close the borders, nationalize businesses, etc.

I see a Russian formal war as allowing Ukraine to take the gloves of their return fire. Russia formally declares war Ukraine can now attack Russia proper……

Even if we were covertly training their pilots and ground crews there’s still the huge issue of operational airfields that the f-16 can utilize. That’s why I think f-16s are 100% coming to Ukraine but it would be after the war or if they come to a ceasefire agreement of some kind.

With the impenetrable phalanx of Sam sites both sides are building, how effective could all these fighters really be?

That would just implode the economy faster.

Air defenses are a huge element on today’s battlefield and they no doubt are a problem for aircraft which is why we sent Ukraine HARM missiles to hit those air defenses by their active radar signatures. This is why long range air to air and air to ground missiles are crucial to air operations. It highlights Russia’s cluelessness in military tactics that they waited a year before they started to mass aircraft near the border and gave Ukraine time to set up a formidable ring ring of air defenses where they didn’t have a modern air defense capability this time last year.

Did the Chinese just agree to send Russians weapons or something today? I am hearing this second hand

The US government said that the Chinese have secretly been sending non-lethal aid to the Russian military, and that China is considering sending lethal aid. In Munich today, Secretary of State Blinken publicly warned the Chinese envoy that we know what they are doing, and there will be consequences if they don't stop.

we shouldn't forget the report that the "understanding" that the US and China achieved in the war's first days was that China would not aid Russia, and that NATO would not send planes to Ukraine.
I believe Xi knows it's to his and China's advantage to stay out. He needs the West for continued economic recovery and the opportunities in the Eastern Russian Republics are very tempting. There would be little pushback from Moscow if a Chinese 'Friendship Campaign' should roll into the Eastern Russian oil fields. Financial assistance to their brothers at first, followed by a million or so 'workers', leading to a de facto administration. It would take time, but getting the West to look the other way would be the first job.

This is potentially the reason China has stayed back, a weakened Russia gives them opportunities to play a longer game and snaffle up land and resources through more passive means that can't be called out so easily.
They also get to see how various Russian and Western weapon systems operate and function without firing a shot themselves, and may be one reason for the reticence by the West in sending more advanced weapon systems to Ukraine, even ones which are nearing the end of their use by dates.
