A lot of people keep banging on about General Frost but they forget two things:

1. Ukraine is fighting on their land, it isn't like they are used to the winters in their own country. The history of Russian winter "wins" comes mainly from fighting countries not used to Russian winters. In the Winter War the tiny little Fins put up a hell of a fight, though they lost some land Russia looked like bumbling idiots.

2. When opposing forces in a winter fight are used to the same climate, the advantage shifts heavily to the one with the best personal cold-weather gear. Who wants to bet that is Russia in the winter of '22/'23?

Some keep bringing up General Winter in WWII and how the Russians will do better just like 80 years ago.

As you and others mentioned, this time it's the Russians who appear to be the poorer equipped for it.

Circumstances can change in 8 decades.....

If not for Lend-Lease the Red Army would have been a mob of barefoot starving half naked men freezing to death in the snow. Their ammo, tanks, guns etc. would have been stuck in factories deep in the Urals with no way other than donkeys & oxen to transport them to the front.

And for some reason they think they defeated the Nazis all by themselves.

They did shoulder the lion’s share of the fighting. That much cannot be denied. But without American aid, even with the losses they inflicted on the Wehrmacht, they’d have collapsed by early 1944.

This is from an article on Fox this morning. Says other cities in danger also. So is this Russia's plan and why they have been pulling forces back? Freeze and starve out Ukraine?

Basically but I don’t if the Russians have enough missiles to do it though. The Ukrainians have hooked up their grid to the EU’s grid and they can power all of western Ukrainian from power they get Poland and the Czech Republic and Slovakia which is why they are trying to get citizens to evacuate Kyiv and other cities and go to western Ukraine for the winter.

Don't forget that the Wehrmacht had its own logistical problems with horse drawn wagons for most of its transportation.

Russia imports the vast majority of its clothing, inlcuding winter clothing. It might be good to know who is exporting to them.

Probably Egypt. I know they grow a lot of cotton and have always had a relationship with Russia. They are on the short list of getting discounted oil from Russia

I should add that a Persian immigrant friend sold Made in the USA clothing to equip the several militaries in Europe, starting with socks.

The Germans were too obsessed with quality in WW2 and got overrun by American assembly lines. Their Tiger and Panther tanks were no doubt the best but when they knocked 2 Sherman’s out 5 more were waiting to take their place. The Willow Run plant could turn out one B-24 bomber every hour. That’s absolutely incredible and production like that will never be seen again.

Russia is determined to go with the German playbook, for some insane reason.

I find these memes to be a bit confusing. The mainstream MAGA position currently seems to be that we shouldn't be involved, at all, in the current Russia/Ukraine conflict. Yet, the MAGA acolytes also claim that Putin behaved because he was afraid of Trump's retaliatory strength. These positions are internally contradictory. The only way to rectify them is to take the position that we know that Trump was really just bluffing, but he was such a badass that he fooled Putin into folding. And if that's the MAGA position at this point... all I can do is pat your heads and say bless your little hearts.
