It is telling that Russian troops have surrounded major cities without having air superiority. That almost seems deliberate and calculated.

Almost surprised he said that as it doesn't fit the narrative most of the media is pushing.
Media coverage is embarrassing. Its like watching ugly cheerleaders.

How would the US feel of China were trying to get Mexico to join a defensive military treaty?
Thoughts?
That's one way to frame the issue.
But Ukraine has had good reasons to want security from Russian aggression. The interests are Ukrainian for their own security from occupation and tyranny.
If there were such a thing I bet Tibet would have liked a security agreement with India and Pakistan before China invaded.
It bothers me that people seem inclined to defend the interests of Putin and Russian expansion rather than remembering how much misery they inflicted on Europe from East Germany and Poland to Romania and Ukraine

Also known as a day ending in Y. The media has ruined this country and the world.

Meh. Turn the TV off and you don't have that problem. It has more to to do with what people want to believe.

At the end of the day, Russia will ‘win’ But really, they lose.
They may take control of Ukraine for a time. But even taking this action has cut their own dick off.
They are now a castrated lamb to the rest of the world and Ukraine will be independent again before Russia regains world power.
Ukraine just has a much better story here. A brave people defending their homeland from a historical foe. This is the stuff of songs.
While the political realities of it are much more nuanced, Ukraine looks heroic in the moment.

They’re doing their best to prevent laying waste to buildings and infrastructure. Putin must still believe that Ukrainians wish to be liberated

India sure but Pakistan would’ve sided with China

This is what It boils down to. History is nothing but stories, hardly ever truths.
I can sell you a pretty lie way easier than an ugly reality

It becomes much more nuanced for Putin if this becomes an urban warfare insurgency mission for Russia.
That will play even worse to the world than how Putin is being framed right now.

Mexico, in comparison to Ukraine, has literally zero military capabilities. Besides, why should Mexico attempt any military activity: give biden 2 more yrs & Mexico will "own" both Texas & Arizona.

True, except access to information (reality) is much easier to come by these days.

Well that applies both for reality as well as sensationalized or straight up made up information. Information, whether accurate or not, is abundant these days

My point is that there has been a steady flow of reliable information since long before the invasion of Ukraine began. It is out there, it isn't hard to find. You just have to be willing to look and not be content with being spoon fed a narrative.

So what does this board think about the Russian Chief of the General Staff getting fired?
Definitely implies that the invasion didn’t go as planned, no?

It’s just false propaganda. Putin can crush Ukraine any second he really decides. He fired the general because he spilt vodka on his new snake Hyde leather shoes.

I believe this squad of baws tried to see if the ruskies had the nuts to run over then right before the pull over
Any of you ex military baws here have any idea what those net looking things are on top of the Russian tanks shown in the video of the post I'm responding to? The guy sitting atop the turret is behind it. I can't think of any reason for it. Sorry, I don't know how to post a screenshot on here or I would. I've seen it on a bunch of these Russian tank videos.
I dont remember ever seeing this on US tanks. Or maybe it is and I never noticed.

The consensus on this board is that it hasn’t gone as planned. Putin definitely underestimated the Ukrainians. That doesn’t mean Russia won’t ultimately win because they will.
