But the 101st hasn’t been in Europe since WWII. They may just be bodies replacing bodies, but I wonder if it being the 101st as the replacement bodies is the messaging. Could be wrong, would certainly defer to you guys, just where my mind went first
Someone else posted that they were replacing an 82nd airborne brigade that’s been there. But prior to the war there was not a major U.S. military permanent presence in Romania. When I went in 2012 the base was run by a handful of contractors and like 3 US military personnel. Just a runway and a bunch of transient barracks for guys rotating in and out of the ME.

CBS News: 101st Airborne deploys Romania
3 miles from the Ukrainian border. First deployment to Europe for the 101st in 80 years.
SIAP
If I am not mistaken they deployed back in the early summer to spell the 82nd 3 BCT or at least that is what one of my old buddies in the 505th told me. I think they are just starting a training mission which is the cause of the press.

One of the first aid packages to Ukraine included funds to mobilize troops to Eastern Europe. Nothing new here.
This was the result of the first nuke sabre rattling by Putin.

I guess they are moving slow. They should pretend they are retreating. I heard they do that pretty fast.

Will the B-21 Raider be the last manned bomber to be built?

So they say
I believe this one is actually an “optionally manned” aircraft.

Who knows. I think the official line is that have 4 operational and are now finished testing. I think the plan is to build 100. Note this is just from memory so I could be wrong.

Don’t think anyone in here wants it to happen for us to find out.
My question had nothing to do with "do you want Putin to use a nuke" as I believe or at least hope no one wants it was simply " IF Putin uses a tactical nuke what response would you expect or what response would you like to happen?

The article I linked said that 6 were in various stages of production but that the first flight wouldn’t happen till next year.

101st Airborne deploys Romania
True, the 2nd brigade of the 101, not the whole division. Kinda of a big deal because the 101 is QRF for PACOM. But there was brigade in Poland before this mob.
Poland, Latvia and Romania are going to be regular one year tours for line and support units. Guard units are on the clock now as well.
At the beginning of this in Latvia the 173rd ABB and a brigade of 2 Para, French Foreign Legion, were housed together. Probably best they werent turned loose.

A bit bigger now. The real shocker is Poland, it has gone from a brigade training site to a major installation in months. And still growing.

And it was a solid answer. Thank you for it. I was just making it clear that wanting Putin to do it was not what I was asking.

According to this article the 101st began deploying in June.

CONSTANTA, Romania — Elements of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) began arriving to the Mihail Kogalniceanum Airbase in Romania June 20, and are scheduled to continue arriving during the next several days. Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, will support the U.S. Army V Corps' mission to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank and engage in multinational exercises with partners across the European continent in order to reassure allies and deter further Russian aggression. The deploying 101st Soldiers do not represent additional U.S. forces in Europe, but are taking the place of Soldiers assigned to 82nd Airborne Division Headquarters and the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division. In all, approximately 4,700 Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division are scheduled to deploy to locations across Europe.

Putin doesn’t want any part of the Polish Army. The Polish hate Russians with a passion.
