It is an interesting problem for Ukraine and the west. All accounts are these little drones are worth about $20k. Calls into question the cost of air defense in trying to take swarms of these out.

Time to get a different batch of rc aircraft enthusiasts into the fray flying rc planes on an intercept course. There are a multitude of commercially available rc planes that are faster than the Shahed drones... and at $2-5K each - The kind of price point that won't be a deterrent.

i am not surprised that is your takeaway from that

Nah man, Im just trying to get a sense of where the board is at. I’m getting the feeling that the majority of this thread would support overt US military action against Russia as opposed to only supplying Ukraine with weapons.

I would not be in that group. I do not want any US troops fighting in this war, period.

im getting the feeling that you really want to openly support russia in this but dont want to be viewed as taking a side so instead you try to come across as someone who is simply playing devils advocate

Well, which NATO country has Russia invaded?

None, which points out why Ukraine wants in NATO so bad and Russia wants them out so they can gobble up Ukraine Oblast by Oblast.

only time I would support that is if Russia split the atom, and I wouldn’t support using our own nukes in response.

reason is if Russia uses a nuke against a non-nuke country and gets what they want, there is zero moral argument against nuclear proliferation and that will be that.

Really, I missed that. Can you link the article declaring the US said Ukraine could join NATO when it pleased?

A day is coming wherein an entire battlefield is populated by neckbeards playing “call of duty” from Cheyenne mountain.

And so do we. And as Trump said, ours are better. Putin likes his life he isn’t ready to die yet I promise you. Russians have been threatening to nuke people from the day they were able to build the bomb. It’s standard Russian doctrine to threaten to nuke people when they aren’t getting their way.

What a stupid comment. Our nukes are better? What does that even mean?

They have thousands. It only takes a handful to clean us out.

“Having” nukes is the entire point. It’s the reason a nation like North Korea still exists.

It doesn’t matter if our tanks and planes are better when a country has nukes.

Yes, they threaten a lot because that is what they are there for. If you think there is a world without Russia in which a country can destroy them and the “don’t” use them your head is too far up your own arse to discuss something like this with.

And yet, the US sought not to possess one square kilometer of any of those nations. We may be the world’s police but we don’t seek to annex any parts of the countries in which we perform police functions.

I am totally opposed to putting Americans in harms way.
And why would you do that anyway when Ukraine is beating back Russia on their own?

That has zero to do with the post he replied to. The poster he replied to said “one nation cannot dictate the dealings of another nation.”

Clearly the United States is the hands down world champ at dictating the dealings of other nations through force. It’s really not even debatable.

Not according to MAD. They are available as a deterrence strategy. The change here is Russia is using the threat of nuclear weapons in an offensive action.

Again, Russia is the one who brought up nuclear weapons and their use in Ukraine, while Russian state TV suggested that they should use them on European capitals. Russia as a state will not be destroyed if they lose in Ukraine. They only risk destruction if they use those weapons offensively.
