I think Ukraine is absolutely doing that - “thanks so much to the people of _____” and then the leaders feel compelled to act when the public supports it.

Trump went into the White House bunker when BLM protesters got too close to the White House. He’d be on the first plane out of DC if enemy troops were closing in on the city. But to be fair, I think every recent president would too.

Turkey and Russia have a weird relationship. Russia helped out Syrian Kurds some in the towns Turkey tried to kick them out of, in Syria

Boroshenko (former president of Ukraine) is weapon in hand doing an interview with sky news at the moment on the street in Kiev.
Say what you want but the optics and reality (maybe, hopefully) are amazing here.

BREAKING:
Turkey has closed the Black Sea for Russian warships due to Putin’s aggression against Ukraine
this is fricking massive. didn't think turkey would have the balls to do it
The Turks don't like the Russkies, but you are right, this is a big deal. Good for the Turks. I wonder if we are making threats about the Kalinigrad Oblast. Russia losing access to the Mediterranean and their only ice-free Baltic port would be a major catastrophe for Putin.

Also I was shocked to see Ukraine hadn't lost all of its airspace after the initial assault seemed like Russia had it easily.
I don’t understand this at all, I’m curious if China is watching this and realizing that a threat is easier to maintain and worth as much or more than a failed campaign.
It’s incredible to me Russia can’t dominate the air space at this point. I’m extremely surprised Russia didn’t do an all out air attack for days or a week or more before sending troops in. Seems like air domination was miscalculated biggly.

Putin clearly miscalculated.
Not saying he hasn't but how does a former KGB/Intel officer with what 20 years(?) of political experience as President or PM miscalculate this.
I do think a NUMBER of things have happened.
1.) Reports that something is off about Putin (e.g. Parkinsons or something). He is running out of time and wants to be "Great" and go down in the history books.
2.) US Intelligence straight frickED Russia by releasing classified info about the attack AND false flag operations to the public. At this point, I think Russian forces were ready to strike and Putin had to make a call as forces were getting tired. He knew that China wouldn't publicly back him but he has their support to make both China/Russia stronger against the West. Russia feels comfortable moving troops from the east to the EU border.
3.) Ukraine isn't NATO and knew that they wouldn't attack and couldn't attack. It also prevents Ukraine from being in NATO
4.) US has looked weaker now than in decades. In house fighting, etc.
5.) US Leaders change leadership every 5 years. EU Leadership has been soft as charmin. Even if they get sanctions. They will erode fairly quick if he could GTFO of Ukraine fairly fast and weak leadership will start removing sanctions.
6.) Russian Oil is King in EU and a bloodline. Hell US still buys Russian Oil.
7.) They've tried to Sanction Proof their economy by bringing in a ton of foreign currency.
I mean when you add all of those factors up. There isn't a more "perfect" time. I think he knew that shite would hit the fan just how hard is unpredictable.
ETA: 8.) Russian's convential army equipment is outdated. It's failing now and decrepit. It's only going to get worse.

I disagree and I know you disagree with your own post also. Going to the dmz took some balls. Going into a bunker when security tells you to is what presidents will do, there was probably threats at the time. He also got out and shook hands with random firefighters on side of road in public against his security’s wishes so who knows.

Imagine a member of Congress doing this. I’ll never forget the group therapy sessions they had on the floor of the House of Representatives in the aftermath of January 6.

actually it’s the opposite no way he wins. Pretty much everyone is against him and at this point his only option is to go al in or back down. If he goes all in he loses due to heavy sanctions if he backs down he looks weak

Putin may end up being poisoned by someone on the inside at this rate. His support has to be dropping by the day. Just too unhinged.

BLM protestors are probably more unpredictable than Putin and his army

I still think this will be a plus someway for Biden to get the popular votes back. Politics is involved somehow
Biden is in pretty much a no-win situation though. He's going to get shite on for doing nothing, but what's worse than nothing? Americans coming home in body bags again on his watch. And he certainly doesn't have the balls to lead an alliance directly against Russian land.

saw on DU (of all places) that Ukraine is basically allowing Russia to advance and then targeting the supply lines behind the armor. Also I was shocked to see Ukraine hadn't lost all of its airspace after the initial assault seemed like Russia had it easily.
So basically Ukraine is going to starve out troops/equipment who can't resupply b/c of too much aggression, and as long as they can maintain control over the airspace Russia is going to have problems resupplying things.
The Ukrainian Rope-a-Dope.
