Potentially huge development with major ramifications if correct that Turkey will close Bosporous to Russia’s warships entering Black Sea. Turkey is a @NATO member. Putin has warned of retaliation against third country’s “meddling” in his invasion of Ukraine
Pretty sure there are some treaties on the use of the Bosphorus although I’m admittedly not completely familiar with it. Russia will most definitely have something to say about that.

I saw on DU (of all places) that Ukraine is basically allowing Russia to advance and then targeting the supply lines behind the armor. Also I was shocked to see Ukraine hadn't lost all of its airspace after the initial assault seemed like Russia had it easily.

So basically Ukraine is going to starve out troops/equipment who can't resupply b/c of too much aggression, and as long as they can maintain control over the airspace Russia is going to have problems resupplying things.

Facebook imposes bans on Russian State Media Ad Revenue - FoxNews

quote:

Facebook has banned all Russian state media from advertising on its platform, according to a company official.

Nathaniel Gleicher, head of security policy at Facebook, said that Russian state media is now prohibited from running advertisements or monetizing content on its platform, adding that the new restrictions apply around the world.

In a tweet, Gleicher said that Facebook would continue to apply labels to Russian state media.

"We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the world. We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media. These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend," Gleicher said.

Starting to believe the rumors that Putin has Parkinson's and has lost his mind.

Yeah I think even our Pentagon confirmed it.

This is ratcheting up pretty quick

I don’t think there is any way that Putin will take an L here. He’s old and this is the moment that will define him. We are walking a tightrope here and one wrong move could cause this to spiral out of control.

Hungary now supports cutting Russia off SWIFT.

Hungary was the last EU country who opposed the measure.

Also all Russian opponents are withdrawing from soccer matches, and refusing to play in Russia.

Putin clearly miscalculated.

He can't go full bore or risk enraging the world and his own country. That's why they tried the super-aggro approach, which is backfiring on them. At a point in the future he's going to have to decide to claim small pieces of land or commit to a full scale war that his country won't support.

Short summary: Ukrainian defenses have held; its air force is still flying; air-defense still in parts intact; troops are digging in in Kyiv. Morale is high. No signs of imminent collapse. A very bloody day/night ahead I am afraid to say. Russia will massively step up military pressure.

Some Russian 2nd echelon troops have moved in; despite rapid progress on some fronts casualties have been heavy; noticeable reckless behavior of some units (e.g., operating outside air defense bubbles); lack of inter-service coordination; noticeable combined arms maneuver deficits.

Also, noticed some logistical difficulties (Russian armor running out of fuel); also seems that some units got lost. Learning curve for the attacker during these types of mil. operations is always steeper/bloodier than for the defender.

Note: Estimates are that Russia committed only a little more than 1/3 of forces. Russian operational tempo will step up, after regrouping. There was no Russian wide-scale combined arms attack on Kyiv. What we are seeing right now are attempts to seal off the city and to probe its defenses.

Quantitative/qualitative advantage still lies with Russia. Still, this could turn out to be Russia's bloodiest war since the Soviet invasion/occupation of Afghanistan. Too early for any conclusions though. This is just the first 48+ hours of the conflict.

Chatted with my colleague Markus Reisner (Austrian Armed Forces) about the three top operational problems of the Ukrainian forces in the days ahead. 1.) Collapse of Kyiv 2) Encirclement in the East 3.) Cut off of supply lines from West/ deny regrouping of Ukrainian forces.

All impressions under the fog of war of course.

Logistics matter. That would explain the look of the captured Russian soldiers, who look more like truck drivers than front-line fighters.

Turkey has closed the Black Sea for Russian warships due to Putin’s aggression against Ukraine

A response in the thread:

Turkish readout didn’t mention any decision to close the straits to Russian warships. I think this is just a request
It would be interesting if the Google Translate of Zelensky's tweet saying "I thank Erdogan for doing this" was misinterpreted and caused a chain reaction of misunderstandings

Maybe Bush 43? Trump too old and out of shape. Obama - no explanation needed.

Don’t like the dude, although admittedly I really did when he was in office because I was a teenager and didn’t know then what I know now, but the speech on the rubble of 9/11 went a long way. Plus he was the most fit of our recent presidents and at least had some degree of military service where Trump and Obama did not.

Who knows, Trump did go to DMZ in N Korea and likes the limelight so he may would have. Granted he’s old and fat. Reagan maybe, not sure about Bush or Clinton. Bush sr may would have but he was pretty old
