The yearly budget spent on US military ranges from 600-800 billion dollars yearly. 40 billion dollars to help weaken Russia seems like a drop in the bucket if it succeeds and ZERO US soldiers are harmed.

Even if Russia takes the southeastern portion of Ukraine and calls it a day they will have a severely weakened military going forward for the next decade.

We can spend $10 million for a new Abrams or $170,000 to destroy one of Russia's. See how that ROI works?

Russia is not a global power. Their gross incompetence in Ukraine in plain view to the whole world makes that glaringly apparent. Even if they conquer Ukraine entirely, their military is wrecked for at least a decade. Their victory in Ukraine affects the USA not one but. Damned sure not $40 big ones worth. If Western Europe sees Russia as a threat, let them step up financially (finally) and pay for their own collective defense.

Not only should we not pay $40bill, we should be pushing for the dissolution of NATO - or at least the USA's participation in it. The need for us to defend Europe against the Russian boogeyman has long since expired.

Just seems like we could spend money on like, Louisiana bridges, for an example, as opposed to blown bridges in Ukraine…..

But hey. That’s just my Putin loving view……..(rollseyes)

The ukraine needs billions of our dollars to fund their pensions and pay government workers' salaries. You're not entitled to your own tax dollars and to think otherwise makes you anti-American.

Ok so what is the formula for dollars spent = return on that?
Is that the extent of your calculus? "Muh 40 billion" with no context or other considerations?

Because that suggest spending al that here is not as useful?
Give me a break. You'd howl at the moon if we gave 40 billion away to poor people.

Not that fricking many. Have you looked at the price tags on new ships and planes? We spend almost a trillion dollars a year on the military. A lot of that money is spent on the deterrence of our two biggest rivals, one of which is currently grinding itself up with no loss of American lives with the aid of that 40 billion. That might be the most cost effective use of tax dollars in my lifetime.

A bridge to make your drive to work 5 minutes shorter or possibly savings 100s to 1000s of US soldiers in the future.

What if Putins goal is to bring back the USSR? Which it seems it is. What if he wants to keep growing more powerful and getting more Nukes. Then one day decides he wants to team up with China and go to war with France or Germany? (Obviously hypothetical) USA should just stand by and let all that happen? Eventually someone comes knocking at your door if you don’t put them in their place when they try to rise up.

The lesser evil is spending 5% of our military budget to help Ukraine to destroy a large portion of Russias army to weaken them then for us then to re build some roads and a couple bridges to make your ride to work a little smoother baww

Incompetent or not, Russia is on the march, invading other countries. And your response is to dismantle defenses? You are either profoundly dim or a Russian bot.

Yes. Exactly. Improve the lives of Americans over Ukraine. Or any other country.

Unlikely. Ukraine has begun a counter-offensive around Kherson. With superior artillery in the region they’ll soon have the Russkies on the run.

Putin is terminally ill and his cohorts will have to decide soon how long they’ll allow him to rule. He’ll get more anxious as his time nears and he may want to try nuking someone. They’ll have to step in and tie the old dictator to his bed.

So who is paying for these weapons with this superb Ukrainian economy? In addition, let’s say Russia turns Ukraine in to a giant landlocked Moldova after the war, how will they pay us back?

We should get paid back by the Ukranians a year or so after the Russians pay us back for WW2 aid.

Well the solution sure as hell isn't to send billions to other countries.
