I didn't know they were suffering. for how long?
Posted on 8/20/25 at 1:55 pm to East Coast Band
My experience in 2024:
1. One slice of mall-like pizza and a medium soda was $18.
2. A double cheeseburger combo totaled $33.
3. I was charged $7.50 for an 8 oz bottle of water at a major resort despite holding a player's card.
4. A large coffee and bagel was $14.
5. Resort fees were $75-100 per night.

Incoming air passenger traffic from Canada to Las Vegas is projected to fall 18.5% from 2024 to this year, according to Ailevon Pacific Aviation Consulting.
And that’s not just Canada ghosting Las Vegas, as the United States could be looking at an $12.5 billion decline in international tourism this year, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council.
That's the majority of the drop right there... Why international tourists don't want to come is the question

A lot of countries urged their citizens not to come bc of tariffs

This thread is filled with people staying on the strip who have Fremont Street budgets, I thought the OT was filled with ballers.

Because now you have gambling & whores on your phone.

Las Vegas is the single most overrated place I have been to — by a country mile. The entire place should be abandoned.

I think #1 is a bigger reason than people account for in these threads. Younger people just don’t have the desire to gamble anymore. Losing money just isn’t much fun
The Vegas Mystique was really a Greatest Generation thing. Turning LV into Desert Disneyland worked for awhile, and emphasizing the Sin City aspect for single women in their Hoe Phase became untenable after COVID. And now the Zoomers really don't see the point of Vegas at all.

The increased availability of gambling nationwide has definitely decreased the appeal of going to LV for that aspect. I recently went to LV for the first time in 20 years and the lack of activity in the casinos was noticeable.
Like others have said, the prices for everything were incredibly high...even for luxury resort standards. We stayed at the Wynn. A "house" margarita at the pool was $26. Breakfast at a place in the Venetian was $85 for my wife and I...with no alcohol (though we had specialty coffee) before tip
I will say though, the room at the Wynn was nice and definitely felt more luxurious than other rooms I've stayed in at luxury resorts in other cities. The crowd at the Wynn/Encore seemed to be "classier" (relatively speaking) to those seen walking around places like Cesar's, the Bellagio, etc. Given this board is mostly comprised of posters from the southeast I'd say some of the "trashy" crowd opinions are borne really more from cultural differences. What may not be considered "trashy" in Southern California may be considered "trashy" by someone from Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, etc...and vice versa. I'm not a guy who is going to wear a lot of gold jewelry, carry a designer fanny pack, and have 4 tattoos. But I recognize that may not be that out of place in L.A. for an otherwise reasonable and wealthy person.
I had very low expectations for the trip and came out pleasantly surprised. Of course, I didn't go into the trip with the mindset of being "frugal". I know I'm getting gouged on prices, but I'm just chalking it up to a weekend splurge.
IMO, LV is a good place to spend a few days living life outside your norm. Sure I can get drunk and eat burgers at home for much cheaper...but the experience isn't the same.

What is your opinion on why Las Vegas tourism is said to be tanking?
1. Can gamble almost anywhere
2. Corporate Vegas casinos try to vacuum your money at all costs by:
- shittier odds on table games
- making side bets mandatory on some games that are at horrific odds
- charging a zillion for food/beverage
- taking away comps for all but colossal spenders
Value and the novelty of legalized games is what made Vegas what it was, take that away and it’s just a commodity.

3. Prices for lodging, meals, etc have surged to unreasonable levels
I've been to Vegas 6 times in the last two years and I think lodging prices are actually going down. Meals/drinks are still outrageous though, but it can be mitigated by picking the right places to eat/drink.

4. There are many more casinos sprinkled across the country
I mostly go for sports gambling (illegal in CA), concerts, pools, and the overall vibe of Las Vegas. Not sure about any other casinos, but all the local ones here are filled with poor immigrant trash and old people burning through their retirement.

Comps for table players absolutely suck m, now, this really applies to any casino though not just Vegas. If I sit down at blackjack for 3 to 4 hours, give me a damn free meal and don’t argue with me about it.

Vegas isnt hurting like yoy think. It may be down but down for Vegas is still good. I've been back home almost every month this year and it is packed even during the week. They certainly nickel and diming you to death buy i believe that is by design. They got through covid with the economy crowd and now they want to push them.out and get more of an F1 crowd. Remember thst these resorts are ran by a few companies and they get together and calll the shots. Much like MGM said no more NBA all star gamw

I can see that. If a person is willing to spend $30 on a drink they are willing to pay high prices on other things. That's the customers you want. Not the people who bitch about a slice of pizza being too expensive.
I'm not spending the time and money to go to LV to eat a slice of pizza. I can just go to the mall at home if I want to do that. It's the same mindset of going to any luxury resort. I'm not going there looking for the best "deal" and trying to game the system by sampling 13 flavors of ice cream. I've already accepted before I go that I'm going to pay unreasonable prices for things (relative to home)...and that's ok because I'm on vacation. It's not an everyday expense

If you go to vegas you are locked into a minimum of 2500. That is is you take it lightly on the gambling. Everything there is incredibly overpriced. It just isnt worth it.

Vegas isn’t for the gambler anymore that’s why it dropped

I love gambling but as a married mid-30 year old I have no interest in Vegas. I can be at a casino within an hour of me in 3 directions, and bet on sports from home.
If I was 25 and single I'm sure I would feel different, but they have priced that crowd out.
