Maybe.

I'm sure there's some kind of catch, though.

They will still make a boat load of money.

Had no idea we imported that much shrimp.

90% of all restaurants and almost every chain uses foreign shrimp. Crawfish too.
When places like ACME do it, you get the picture of how bad it is.

Here is an idea for the government if they really wanted to help shrimpers.

Let them operate tax free. No fuel
tax. No tax on supplies. No income tax. Hell they could even sale their product without charging sale’s tax.

That is how you help out a working man.

Yeah, when their menu states their seafood “may” be imported you can almost be assured it probably is.

I would agree if American families didn't require two incomes to live comfortably.

Go wait 30min to be seated and then get a look at the menu to see it is all imported seafood. Your arse nor is mine getting up and going somewhere else to eat. And the restaurants know it.

It is easier to enforce the tariff then every seafood restaurant in the US properly labeling the menu.

We need to be utilizing US food/AG products as much as possible and only import to fill the gap.

Also, is that law just for LA is that nationwide?

It still should be a luxury. Cooking your own food is a chore but it is manageable with some planning. You can easily cook 2 meals on the weekend and be good for the entire week.

You can rest assured that if your business model is built to be dependent on people being lazy, you are in good shape these days.

Commercial fishermen have the opportunity to do just that. I have a lot of commercial fishermen as customers, about 1/3 of them have a tax exemption. They pay zero tax on supplies to build or repair their boats. No tax on nets, fuel and other essentials as well.

Great. Let them all have an exemption and not just the ones they choose. That is a step in the right direction.

Good

It’s complete BS that we have tons of shrimpers here whose families depend on them selling shrimp.

Then the state takes in the largest majority of another countries shrimp instead? That’s ridiculous. Support the local shrimpers

How expensive is the local shrimp? It's absolutely bananas to me that shrimp caught halfway across the world, frozen, and transported is materially cheaper than fresh shrimp caught 45 mins away.

Why do we need a tariff on this? Let the consumer decide what they are going to buy? “ Effective January 1, 2025, Act 148 (Senate Bill 166) mandates that food establishments clearly display the country of origin for all seafood dishes, not just shrimp and crawfish, in a manner easily visible to consumers.”

My guess is Trump is trying to rebuild our fishing industry.
