My yard guy doesn't do my neighbor's yard.

I bet your yard looked better that summer than it ever has. I cut my shite high and it has always looked great with minimal treatment. My neighbor scalps their yard and it looks like shite and they have a “lawn service”

It did, much greener and less weeds. I think I will give it another try for a few weeks especially not that the heat killed off the clover that was in there.

although I am a I proud, card carrying, in good status member of the bawhood, I have finally said enough of that noise, I ain't got time for that no mo', I'd rather be out on the lake, golf course, sitting in the a/c drinking a cold one watching Owlie do it.... just about anything else, although I can still get out there and mow, weed eat, edge, and blow(off the grass cuttings,) I'm done wit dat shite!

Then you can't complain. They maximize their time and cut all lawns way too short. You're supposed to gradually raise the blades as the grass turns greener and fuller. They basically scalp every yard in 20 minutes and get out of there.

Tall, healthy grass prevents weeds and looks way better.

I've been cutting my own with cheap Murray or Craftsman pushers since I've been a homeowner. My son who is 20 told me he would never be so poor as to have to push mow his yard. I told him I'd never be poor because I'm not paying somebody to do shite I can do myself.

I use a Fiskars StaySharp Max Reel Mower on my lawn. I don't have a huge lawn so it is manageable. It puts one of the best cuts I've ever seen on grass, especially when I checkerboard it.

Attach a heavy, rubber door mat to a rope.

Tie rope around your waist with enough slack so the mat is laying flat on the ground.

Walk in the pattern you want in the yard and you will have the striping you desire.

Or you can drag it behind the mower as you mow.

I do mine with a moderate sized self propelled.

It does look great with the faint stripes and all, but the real reason I do it that way is because I'm a cheap and stubborn SOB.

I cut my 5 acres every week with a zero turn mower. looks good enough for me. takes 2 hours vs the old way with the grooming mower/tractor and the push mower [4.5 hours]

and... when i'm offshore the wife will cut the grass with the zero turn. win/win. stripes is for country club people, not country people. lol

This is me. I'm just not paying someone $200 bucks a month to cut my little yard. It gives me an excuse to have a beer at 9am on a Saturday too.

Honestly, it isn’t going to be cheap and easy to have a truly beautiful yard in south La

Will be a pain in the dick compared to most other areas. Was ridiculous how much easier it was to have a beautiful lawn when I lived in Nashville compared to here

How do you mow that early? I tried to mow last weekend that early and it is so humid here (SE MO) that it was like I was sloshing around in water.

I have a Scott's 20 in reel push mower myself. It's actually fun to cut my 1/2 acre lot in the spring and fall. Not so much now. The St. Aug grass is growing too fast for me to keep up, especially when I go out of town for the weekend. I was paying a lawn service in the summer, but the grass looked like crap and my wife was sure the lawn guy was importing the neighborhood weeds. So I have a cheap gas push mower for the summer cuts. Good exercise.

If I had a half acre, I'd have a gas mower myself. Even though my lot is small, it's still a pain if you let it go much more than a week in the summer. Damn good exercise though.
