Who wants to hire government workers?
Exactly there would be no way in hell if I saw government employment on someone’s résumé, they make it to an interview.

was masking the ai shitshow in the private labor market.
There is no AI shitshow. The layoffs in Silicon Valley are happening because they overhired during COVID, interest rates, and H1B hiring increases.
AI has had MINIMAL impact on Silicon Valley thus far.
There isnt a single mass layoff you can find that cannot be explained by COVID over hiring, interest rates, or H1B.

Just wait till the 250K or so more workers that took the deferred resignation roll off between Sept 30 and Dec 31.
Govt layoffs are just starting

They will likely need to move for work.
I tend to agree with this. From a Macro view, the investment in new manufacturing should be a job creation opportunity but relocating probably required. This is part of why I think there is such an emphasis on interest rate cuts to stimulate buy and selling of homes. Can’t relocate if you can’t sell and can’t buy if you can’t afford a mortgage

Sounds like a good reason to stop importing white collar job replacements, and foreign students. Send these people back to school to learn to code, and hire American.

The wife’s (no pics) company hired one and the person lasted about 3 weeks before up and quitting. This was a mangemant/ VP level job and the reason was “ it was to stressful of a work environment “ aka “ y’all mean Imhave to,show up and do my job”

Like a bunch of adult zoomers getting dumped into the workforce.

So you wouldn't hire ex-military? Because that's definitely government employment (and you can't explain that away).

I think everyone knows what he's talking about.

It's why so many lazy idealists love to hide in academia. No way they could hack the real world.

I was hopeful we’d see the private sector be able to absorb all this freed up labor. It looks however that it’s just not happening.
That's because no one is hiring knowing we're heading into a recession. Have you seen the job reports for the last 3 months?

Unemployment rate is the same now as it was in July 2024. They're not hiring because government workers are lazy and entitled.
I love two people downvoting a verifiable fact

Government workers aren’t qualified for real jobs. Real jobs require working.

I am curious as to how long the severance pay will last for these government workers.

I knew when I typed what I typed some dickhead would rush in with this. Thank you for proving me prescient.
To answer your question, while military is government employment that’s not the government employment being discussed. To further answer your question, it depends on what they did in the military. Being a vet doesn’t move one to the top of my hiring list, the top of my free drink list use but not automatically to the top of my hiring list.

I am hiring a position in Washington DC right now. Out of 50-60 resumes I received probably 2/3rds once worked in the military administrative position. Purchasing or contracts etc. they were not actual military personnel.

The issue is they are not going to find a salary like they had and their qualifications does not warrant a salary with what little expertise or experience they have.
They will have to start at a job that pays them what they are worth, which is less than they made. A struggle to a apt, YES, but onw people do all the time.
perfect example - when they end the Dept of Ed - it is made up of bureaucrats who hated being teachers and sucked in the classroom. There is no way they will accept a teachers salary working in public schools. They went to the DOE to escape this.
Will they make the adjustment and take the pay cut - some will, most will not. Hunger makes a man work or die.
