Yes, the court would uphold it. As long as the law is applied equally to all business it will be found constitutional.

This is also a matter of free speech not so much religious freedom.

There's two sides. 1, as a business owner why you would turn away business is confusing. 2, as a customer, why would you give business to someone who's opposed to your way of life like that? I don't think legally you should be able to force someone to provide a service to you, but that doesn't mean we can't shame or boycott the store owners. But I just don't get why the lesbian couple would want to buy their cakes here in the first place.
i agree with your points.

To add to this with my thoughts, I think it’s absolutely absurd that the court system can come in and punish a private business for not doing something they legally dont want to do. Well in this case, it was deemed illegal....... but you get my point. I hope...

I think this can open the door for making divorce illegal. All marriage contracts must be enforced until one of the parties is dead.

I don't know whether this is what happened here, but often in cases like this an activist group wants to make an example out of someone and they find someone to place the order. The entire purpose is to bring about a lawsuit.

The couple violated a state law that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation in places that serve the public. Religion never entered into the picture.

What if they were a black straight couple?

Since they were born black, that would be discrimination.

One issue I have with this, among many, is you are forcing not only labor, but businesses to redefine what they provide.

What if a Muslim bookstore were forced to become a "religious text" company because it violated a bullshite city ordinance (or activist judge's order) that says a business can't discriminate on the basis of sincerely held religious beliefs? Do we want to force a Muslim bookstore to carry Bibles?

I realize there are some distinctions between this and the dykecake but I'm not sure they're meaningful.

Were those the lesbos that drove 135 miles past 30 or so secular bakeries, looking for a christian bakery to destroy?

So a Muslim would spend his week committing, in his mind, what may be sacrilege and an abomination to his god Allah... forced to make the Star of David on little pastries? I wouldn't have imagined we could even make prisoners of war do this without some backlash somewhere.

How about a man of Muslim faith with a catering service in a mixed African-American / Muslim neighborhood. During the course of working on a wedding reception menu, a bride insists the stuffed peppers be bacon wrapped... in total opposition to the owner's religious belief's... and who has never even handled bacon in his life? He says he won' do this... the bride is furious and sues... $135,000 fine?

No, your hypo is not the same as the wedding cake situation. A Muslim catering service likely wouldn't have pork on their menu. Regardless, if the caterer has a blanket policy of no pork menu items that is perfectly ok.

If the baker simply said we don't make any wedding cakes regardless of the sexuality of the couple that would be fine as well.

No you retard bc that's not in the purview of his business. I can't go to a pizza shop and demand they serve me general tso's chicken.

Does the bigot scum bag baker make normal wedding cakes with boiler plate writing on them for straight couples? Yes. Can said baker deny the same exact service to a customer because they are a homosexual? No.

It's like trying to explain the alphabet to little children with some of you.

One of my questions is, and I would imagine it might come up in front of a court of a law, what other religious "tests" do they perform to uphold their Christian beliefs?

Do they provide a questionnaire to make sure that no one is an adulterer, masturbator, murderer, etc., or any other things that are inconsistent with Christianity?

Seems like they are only applying these "Christian" beliefs to a single thing about their "Christianity", which is one of the problems I have with this practice.

Eventually someone will use religion as an excuse to not serve women, or black people, or Jews, etc., since you can find all kinds of passages that you want to interpret that way.

It was used in the exact same way to deny women and blacks the same rights. The exact same books in the bible and same scriptures. Gays make this baker queasy and has extreme resentment for their lifestyle. They desperately tried to use religion as their cover but the courts saw right through their bullshite.

I don't think there are cakes specifically made for murder parties, mastabatory parties, or adultery parties... So I'm not sure that those are comparable events.

Worse case scenario, let's say there's hypocrisy there. So what? There's no law against being a hypocrite.

I'm not a Christian, and I'd have zero issue serving a gay couple, or any demographic for that matter. I'd also refuse to shop at a bakery who ran their shop like that. I just don't think this is something the government needs to get involved in. I'm not a huge fan of victimless crimes, like prostitution, smoking a joint, or having to shop for a cake somewhere else. This isn't any of the government's business.
