According to the Flight data, it shows the plane was traveling 21 knots or 24mph.

I didn't even consider low visibility, if so that makes more sense.

Damn you can hear the controller give the truck clearance to cross, then frantically trying to get them to stop.

These guys have too much on their plates at these busy airports.

I'd be shocked if a 24 mph collision could do that much damage to a jet. It was moving faster.

Yeah I agree but 140mph would have done more damage I would imagine.

On second thought maybe the 140mph was accurate

Why would you ever clear Fire trucks to cross a runway at this busy of an airport. Laguardia has up to 74 flights an hour so there is seldom much time before the next takeoff or landing.

Laguardia is a small footprint with a fire station on site. The fire truck was responding to a separate incident aboard a United Airlines flight, whose pilot had reported "an issue with odor." Nothing that going around the busy runway would have affected.

There are access roads around that might add 30 seconds.

It’s always amazed me that given the sheer volume of calls they make we don’t see a few more disasters.

Even if 99.999% on the right side

One of the flight attendants (assuming the one up front) was found outside the plane alive and still strapped into her seat.

Them firefighters are very lucky. A half a second earlier and it would have struck the cab of the truck.
