Truck was reportedly responding to another incident. An aborted takeoff w/ fumes in the cabin.

Are ATCs getting paid right now? Or are they part of the homeland security funding issues?

ATCs are part of transportation not DHS, so they are not part of the partial DHS shutdown.

The entire cockpit is gone. No way the pilots survived that.

Confirmed they did not. Sad.

I get ATC is running the show, but why would the fire truck not also do the ole visual right, left, right look before crossing the road?

Terrible. Seems VERY lucky only 2 were killed

This is terrible. I know those air traffic controllers are overworked in NYC, DC, etc with tight air spaces to work with but this incident seems avoidable

Aircraft going 140 mph. Fire truck going from dead start and can’t move fast. Low viability on a rainy night, might have looked and didn’t see anything.

Airports are extremely busy and shite can come at you from a million different ways. It was also night time and I believe raining or poor visibility.

I didn't even consider low visibility, if so that makes more sense.

They've had near misses with this in the past at La Guardia, I was on a flight in 2021 that had to do a go around because of a vehicle on the runway. Was some maximum pucker factor when we're just about to touch down and the engines rev all the way up and the nose of the plane suddenly tilts way way up.

Where did you get that number because it doesn't match what was recorded when it happened.

Used to want to do this back in high school, glad we didnt have any proper guidance counselors or career counselors to direct me on how to pursue this career, probably dodged a bullet.

Looks like you might have misspelled “was”.

Saw this on X so consider that…

United flight wanted to return to gate due to fumes in cabin. Apparently United could not find him a gate to return to, so ATC rolls a fire rescue unit out to meet the United flight.

If United flight returns to gate, truck never rolls.

Don’t understand how they could not find him a gate, hell move another plane…
