Why did this need to take so long ?
To draw it all out for publicity I guess

A lot of times they console the families and their wishes as well. Can’t imagine the family having to go through that trial hearing all the actual evidence and how the prosecution would portray the murders. Ugh.
Tough, as I’m assuming they want him to die, but also, a relief it’s over and they don’t have to go through that ordeal.
As someone who’s family was very directly
Impacted by murder and the death penalty, I’d bet money that the families of these victims are largely upset today that this piece of shite will spend forever in prison instead of facing capital punishment. There is very much a large “closure” aspect to the DP that really does help the families and give them relief.

Still got the big one here in Georgia of the dad who supplied a gun for the high school shooting. Should be much more interesting than the last parents
Very, very weird post

He still may. He just won’t have to experience the death penalty.

Maybe even a Master degree but I’m not entirely sure.
He was working on his PhD, and I THINK he was a TA in a criminal justice class.
The students said he was a weirdo who graded strictly and erratically up until the murders, at which point he was much more laid back.

Hope he gets beaten and raped daily in prison.

I will have to find something else to do in August.

shite. You beat me.
But to the “why now?” surely there’s no way this is done without the blessing, if not urging of the parents. I’m sure some stuff was gonna come out that wouldn’t paint their kids in the greatest light. Nothing crazy, just typical college stuff.
But it’s one thing when it’s all abstract, maybe another when faced with the knowledge that so much of that would be described and made permanent by the internet. I’ve thought about the terror of it being one of my kids. I can’t imagine balancing the want for justice with the want to protect my daughter and her reputation, even in death. Or especially in death. Just a horrible situation.
But from what we know of this a-hole, he’s gonna do a lot of talking the next 40+ years. He wants to be immortalized and will, no doubt, try to create his legacy as one of the U.S.’s most notorious serial killers. Though, he’s not technically a serial killer unless he’s killed previously and went uncaught.

I’m pretty sure you’re correct. I was thinking that too but wasn’t positive so didn’t speculate.

Very surprising!

Like I said, I can’t even imagine. However, like I also stated, a lot of times they console with the family on these pleas. Perhaps in this particular situation, they didn’t want to have to hear all the gruesome details sitting in the court room for weeks, hearing it all over and over again. Them live with the agony of appeals after appeals and such.
He can no longer appeal and will spend 23 hours a day locked up in a 12x12 cell room for the rest of his life, and the family can immediately move to the next phase of griefing and conclusion.

That's not how that works

I never understand how all these killers want life in prison. If I was guilty I'd want the death penalty and quickly... not 20 years later.
Posted on 6/30/25 at 6:41 pm to RLDSC FAN
I'm almost positive the state doesn't have to get the victim to "sign off" on a plea deal.
Not an attorney tho.

Cokes, I remember you mentioning this situation, but can’t remember all the details. I think this may be different because it is parents wanting to protect the reputations of their young daughters, whose every non-squeaky clean action in the past couple of years prior to their murders would have tried to have been shoehorned in by the defense, even if it wasn’t relevant at all and the judge struck it on objection. But just the mention of it combined with the permanency of the internet would have immortalized it. shite that’s really no big deal, that we all did before the internet and iPhones, that we doesn’t make the girls “bad” or “immoral” in the slightest, just makes them
regular college kids, could be used to paint them in an unflattering light by a bunch of assholes
I bet the families of the victims, the survivors, and the DA have been in constant contact about this since the beginning. My guess is that the defense would have accepted this a long time ago, but maybe there were some holdouts on the victims’ side that finally decided this was the less of all the impossibly terrible outcomes.
But I don’t know. Never been in that situation, obviously. But my bet is that in your situation, it happened so long ago, that the victim’s every action wasn’t recorded online and wouldn’t be immortalized there forever.

2 of the girls families have now said they are against the plea deal and were taken by surprise.
