I have to ask. Are you seriously saying that you would be willing to run up and tackle someone who is waving two knives around? Do you want to go to the ground with someone holding a big chefs knife?

How would that work exactly?

This actually happened on COPS years back and I remember the episode. The cop tackled some lady and they went to the ground. They handcuffed her, rolled her over and the knife was buried in her chest. Ooopppsss. Could just have easily been buried in the guy tackling her. Going hands on with someone waving a knife around just doesn't work. This isn't some movie where you karate kick it out of her hands.

If anything, those cops were entirely all too patient. None of them even had their hands on their gun this entire time. This lady already murdered another person. At this point, there is zero reason at all to be treating her with kid gloves

Check out the cameraman in the background of that video.

Talk about clueless.

Anyone who has seen the NYPD shoot should know to haul arse the minute they pull guns out. Who remembers the Diallo shooting in 1999? 41 shots and 19 hits in a couple of seconds.

Why did someone copy and paste a torso onto those legs? Looks like two different people.

Why didn't they ask her if she was postpartum before firing?

What's weird is it looked like the same cop that tased her is the same one that shoots her. WTF were the other cops doing who had guns drawn? Once you see the taser isn't working and she is still advancing, it's open season.

The only problem is that they did not kill her and she is still in the hospital.

Well the cop that shot her was black. Not sure if that makes the left less angry.

ld school nightstick and a crack across the back of the head could have ended that without shots fired.

I thought I had read why this fell out of favor.

quote:

Officer Arthur Lamb, a well-known trainer on the baton, once stated:

I've trained over 200 police departments, comprising over ten thousand men. In every class, I ask the officers if they've ever seen a subject subdued with one blow to the head. None of them ever have. What you're doing when you hit a man in the head is first, creating a serious danger of death, and second, you're numbing the one part of the body that can stop him. If you use my method with one or two strikes and step back, he realizes that the thing has gone against him, and the confrontation is over. But if you hit him in the head and put him into a state of shock where he is almost immune to pain, and now enraged beyond reason, the only thing left for you to do is beat him into the ground. This is why so many police brutality charges came about when batons were used the old-fashioned way.

Not disagreeing that violent submission is the answer here, but they've re-thought how they utilize nightsticks.

perfectly handled. If we start greasing more of these crazy people (or those pretending to be crazy) they'll stop acting crazy as often. We've allowed this type of behavior so often that no one fears any consequences. Put more in the morgue and we won't have to put so many in it.

That dude is selling something. Of course he said that.

I absolutely have seen someone get cracked across the noggin and "being immune to pain and enraged" was not what happened. I remember back when NOPD carried cut off cypress knees on a leather thong around the FQ. Seen many fights broken up when they rolled in hot swinging those things around.

that's a small sample size, though I don't doubt it was highly effective in messing people up, but that's kind of his point. It was an alternative to having to take it that far at time when civil rights awareness and civil suits were on the rise. Lamb was on the Boston Police force for 23 years. I'm sure he saw a thing or two in his day that led him to his conclusions.

Turns out the lady is innocent. Her brother says she has mental health issues. The system totally failed her.

That's how it works right?
