I have a microtech otf. It’s a fun figity knife. Good for the office. Don’t carry it an expect it to 100% open when you need it the most.
It’s good but any little dirt will cause it to not work. Easy work around and easy to clean but a manual opening knife is more reliable.

Same. Lately it's been a Spyderco Native Chief. Over four inches of 'part you out'.

I lost a Kershaw OTF auto around this time of year a couple of years ago. I was doing yard work, and when I came in it was gone out of my pocket. The clip probably snagged on something and "jumped" off. Anyway, over a year later it had snowed and everything was nasty and muddy. I had shoveled back some snow that was refusing to melt and there was the knife under a big hydrangea bush. It was open and had mud, dirt, and debris in it. I took it in and rinsed it off. It opened like always with no issues. I just put a little 3-in-One on it and put it back in the rotation.
I have expensive knives, but I don't carry them on a regular basis. That $40 Kershaw that spent more than a year in the elements is now my EDC since I lost the other Kershaw I bought to replace it.
A great uncle of mine told me when I was just a wee Legend that you don't own pocket knives, you just keep em for a while until you inevitably lose them. Tnose were wise words in my experience.

My current EDC is a the mini version of that Boker Kalashnikov with the bowie blade. I love that little little snappy bastard. Great for everyday tasks. I use it all the time. Anytime I hit that button and it snaps open, people are always impressed with its action. Hard to beat at that price point.
Been carrying it for about a year since I lost my other little Kershaw Launch II automatic knife. More expensive, but also a really nice automatic.
OTF knives are cool to fidget with, but very unreliable in comparison to any automatic I have owned.
So funny. My grandfather told me that same thing about pocket knives being yours for a short time, and to never get too attached.

I had me a switchblade comb back in the 1980s when I was a kid, to go along with my parachute pants- and you couldn't tell me NUTHIN' .

My dad gave me his old “paratrooper” m1 knife. I think it’s a Camullus. It was AF issued.
You can’t lose it. But it sounds like what you’re looking for.

i carry a viper-tec everyday. like some have said on here, keep it clean. I use it for everything, plus I sell a good bit of them, I get to switch them up a lot.

My Dad always had a small 2 blade knife with him and that has held over with me.
30 years ago, I carried a medium size Buck knife but now I carry a small Kershaw. It's sharp, clips on to the edge of my pocket, and opens effortlessly.

I only carry traditional pocket knives but still keep up with some of the modern folders. For a cheaper auto, grab a Kershaw Lauch. But if you want to go for a higher priced, go for a Microtech.
There are tons of options, and this is just my opinion. But both of those you can find many options that are new and also there are many 'used' options that you can snag for a deal.

Fact. Most people do not understand how slippery copious amounts of blood makes everything.
If I've had to resort to my knife in a self-defenses situation, things were going terribly wrong for me on that day.

And 99% of the time, you and everyone around you would have been better off just taking off running. Knives are weapons only when you intend to quietly get the jump on someone. Otherwise, they are tools and should be considered solely in that vein.

ETA: Jesus, I'm looking at knife prices now... I bought my Kershaw Leek fifteen years ago for $25

Ive carried the same fox karambit for about 12 yrs. That little "wave" hooks onto the edge of your pocket and deploys the knife every single time. The finger rings like a little brass knuckle and its got a glass breaker. Very mall ninja but its been sturdy.
I used to have an Italian tuxedo stiletto like OP wants but they just fall apart. Youll love fiddling with it and it'll be iconic for a bit then the fricker will just break.
