Good, now they might be able to help OJ find the REAL killers. He has had some trouble doing that as of late whilst being locked up...

But I would imagine the LAPD could throw ANY charge back on? Perjury? Obstruction? Evidence tampering?

Not when the the evidence is inadmissible because some cop took it home and held on to it for 20 years. How could you ever establish chain of custody?

Right. That knife would never be admissible anyway. Chain of custody.

But no, he cannot be retried in State Court for the murders. He could be tried in Federal Court if he broke any federal laws, and he could be tried for other crimes, but none of that is happening.

If anything comes out of this it will just be a footnote to the whole thing.

So you think they will drag him back to civil court to sue him for more money he doesn't, won't have?

I think he is saying it is a waste of time. He was already sued and could not pay. Why would things be any different now when he is in a worse financial condition?

New evidence would negate the DJ defense I believe.
dual sovereignty supersedes double jeopardy

If a person violates State and Federal law, he can be tried in both jurisdictions for the same crime

Also if he violates the sovereign laws of multiple states, he could be tried for the same crime in the applicable jurisdictions....meaning it is indeed possible for someone to be tried for the same crime twice

Won't happen

Not really all that "new." If we assume that they could get past a judge on a preliminary hearing with this knife (which I think would be highly unlikely) - they could charge him with some flavor of tampering with evidence/obstruction of justice/hampering an investigation - etc. He had a right to remain silent, but he didn't have a right to commit overt acts to conceal his crime - those are additional crimes.

So, in a purely hypothetical law school context? Yes.

In the "real" world? No.

(ETA: Strike that - in a world where Kim Kardashian makes $50+ million in a year and Trump is the likely Republican nominee, ANYTHING is possible, so - "Possible, but not likely.")

Anyone find it curious in this day and age of instant news the cop's identity and photo hasn't been released*?

What's this supposed to be? Not the actual knife they have as new evidence.

If only there were weekend golf furloughs, OJ could have continued his search.

How in the hell could anyone, much less a cop, find a weapon that is the exact same kind of weapon used in the most famous murder trial of all time at the main suspect in that murders house, buried suspiciously and not immediately think "I should turn this in to the proper people"?

How the frick do you think "I'll put this on my wall"

This blows my mind
