yeah I would think a 4 or 5 year old should be able to sit relatively still for an hour

a 2 year old though? LOL

I dont see a problem with it. They are using their ipad instead of a hard copy bible

I also see adults using their ipad and phones for the bible instead of the actual book

From someone who married a catholic, you might as well sit at home than try to get something out of sitting in a cry room with a bunch of loud crazy kids.

We have been much happier since deciding to attend a local methodist church that has a nursery. We have a 20 month old.

Let me guess you don't have kids?

My 4 year old can sit through church without an electronic device but I can totally understand a parent utilizing one in order to get through mass so that they don't have to deal with the uninvited judgement from others (especially those of non parents).

Let's face it, not only is it an hour, but it's a long hour at that. That is most definitely hard work for a toddler to be well behaved week after week at church. Even if they are great one week, doesn't mean they will be the following. As a parent, you have to learn how to roll with the punches and go with the flow to keep the peace. I honestly don't give a shite if anyone agrees or disagrees with my parenting decisions while at church.

I've never been to a church that didn't have some kind of nursery or Children's church...or both.

Our church has both, nursery for the kids under 4 and children church for 5-12

eta:I take that back, I have been to a few churches that haven't had either but I've been to more that have had them that didnt.

and I had never been to a church that had a nursery till I went with my wife's parents to some giant Pentecostal church this past Easter with our daughter.

They put a freaking tracking device on her and everything

I was raised in small, rural churches, so...

Mine has neither. No cry room. No nursery.

I'm sure I could threaten my 4 year old enough to get her through the hour, but that's a really long time for a 4 year old to sit still, quiet, and listen to some boring crap that she has absolutely zero comprehension of.
No way my 2 year old could though.

My 2 nieces immediately ask for my moms phone or my brothers phone when I see them.

I tell them to go play outside and get creative

He can't tell the difference between a 7 year old and a toddler, no wonder the iPad was a distraction.

agreed, if it does not affect me in any way.

I don't give two shits about those things that have no affect on me. Until they do. the kid with an Ipad is no biggie, until you sit him in front of me at a venue where its inappropriate. Kind of like cell phones in a movie theater.
