KFC’s German branch has apologized for seeming to encourage its customers to mark the anniversary of Kristallnacht — the notorious Nazi pogrom against Jews — by eating chicken, saying that a promotional message was sent in error as a result of an automated push notification.
The pogrom that began on Nov. 9, 1938, is known as the night of broken glass, and is widely commemorated as the start of the Holocaust. It was a coordinated assault on German Jews and their homes, businesses and synagogues.
On Wednesday, KFC Germany sent a message to users of its app with the title “Anniversary of the Reich’s pogrom night,” according to reports in the German news media and screen shots of the promotion that circulated widely on Twitter. The message invited customers to enjoy “tender cheese with crispy chicken.”
KFC Germany quickly followed up with an apology within the app for having sent what it called an “incorrect” and “inappropriate” message.

How do you accidentally send a message celebrating the Reich’s pogrom night? Do Reich and Pogrom have alternate meanings in Germany? Why would this promotion even be typed into something that could be sent out as a push notification?

I'm guessing it is a day that is noted as a day of remembrance. In the US we turn every single holiday into a marketing sales bonanza. Memorial day sales for instance.

So - Colonel Sanders would be known as "Oberst Sanders" in Germany and would wear a monocle in place of his horn-rimmed glasses?
(Somebody get to it in Photoshop and make the meme!)

All I know is that the Ukraine war has given them a renewed focus on their military. The last two times that happened didn't go so well for, well......pretty much errybody.
Let's just keep an eye on em.

It really is incomprehensibly stupid. Below is a slight explanation. Sounds like KFC in an incessant push for sell bad chicken just automatically spits out a shrill promotion for anything on the calendar. Some human is supposed to check to make sure the promotion isn’t something outrageous like telling the Japanese to stop being a little boy and become a fat man on August 9, but whoever that human is at KFC was working from home and missed Pogrom Poppin’ Chicken, it’s Finger Licking Good!

“We use a semi-automated content creation process linked to calendars that include national observances. In this instance, our internal review process was not properly followed, resulting in a non-approved notification being shared," the company said in a statement Thursday.

Very likely they laid off Bob without really knowing what Bob did. Now they know.
