Idk, that’s certainly what the director of the docuseries has said (I posted the quote earlier in this thread). When you combine Read’s narcissistic tendencies, Alan Jackson’s (over)confidence, and a need to pay for her legal bills.. I can see how it happens.
I don’t think the bar is “absolutely no way” it ends in a hung jury, though. Surely they all knew it was a possibility. But it seems that they were very confident they would get an acquittal.

I think they were confident too. And I could be totally wrong. I just think that if Read and her team gave a production crew behind the scenes access for the trial and didn’t have any editorial control over the final product, they are dumber than I thought. I just can’t imagine anyone thinking that’s a good idea no matter how confident you are.
I also disagree with civilitiger that it’s a hit piece. I think there are parts that make her out to be a very sympathetic figure and parts that make her out to be a crazy bitch. They didn’t force her to say the things she said. I would imagine that she was prepped really well on things to not say during interviews. And if she still chose to say dumb shite, then that’s her fault.

I’m with you on this. It’s not a hit piece. If anything it’s sympathetic to her overall, but I thought they did a pretty good job of avoiding too heavy of a bias one way or the other considering the whole thing is basically shot from the defense team’s POV.

I think the defense believes that the more eyeballs and attention this trial gets, the better.
Public opinion can swing a trial whether people want to admit it or not. And with the amount of reasonable doubt here, I think they were going with the "any publicity is good publicity" mantra.

The DA was below average. So much reasonable doubt. At this point, it seems she's having to prove her innocence.
The arm injuries look just like the injuries of someone I know that got attacked by a dog.
Did none of the neighbors have camers? And what happened to all of John's outside recordings? If she deleted them, why? So many questions.

One thing they failed to mention throughout this trial was his jacket. This all happened during a blizzard so he was probably wearing a thick jacket, right? How can he sustain such arm injuries, from being hit by a car that's backing up at 24 mph, if he was wearing a thick jacket? Wouldn't the jacket have cuts from the plastic that cut his arm? I think he went inside, took his jacket off and was assaulted then left to die on the front lawn.

the sleeve of the hoodie has punctures (single holes) on the sleeve. Pictures were shown during the voir dire of Dr. Russell. She described how the fibers around the punctures in the hoodie were directed away\outward from the sleeve. She testified that showed something punctured the sleeve then was pulled out.

They need 16 jurors, so it looks like they will reach that goal tomorrow. Also, SCOTUS denied the request to delay the trial. Everything is pointing towards opening statement being this upcoming Tuesday.

Yeah, I remember thinking, when they showed the picture in the documentary, that it didn't look like it was caused by being hit by a vehicle.
They were saying he fell down after he was hit right? It just seems like the wounds wouldn't be as specific as they are if he was hit. It seems like their would be some brush burns somewhere on his body.

I would say the injuries would be much more specific if he was hit by a vehicle. They injuries would be focused at the point of impact. Such as broken bones in his arm, bruises on his arm, or maybe even a dislocated shoulder is he was only hit on the arm.

The commonwealth only claims that Officer John O'Keefe was hit on the arm. So some of those injuries aren't expected, but how many of those injuries did OJO receive?
Then ask ChatGPT what kind of injuries are expected after someone is beat up, and compare those injuries to OJO's injuries.
