quote:

Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department say officers working a detail at Mellow Mushroom on Burbank Drive heard shots fired nearby and responded. Officers saw a gold Ford Mustang fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed and pursued it onto LSU’s campus.

quote:

Officers then returned to Mellow Mushroom as management decided to ask all patrons to leave.

At that point, a woman trying to leave the parking lot in her car was surrounded by a crowd of people. BRPD says she accidentally backed into several people while trying to leave, and also hit another vehicle. The woman was injured by an unidentified person or persons during the incident and her vehicle was damaged.

I can’t find the video but the news showed a large crowd surrounding the females car. One opened the door and punched her in the face while others broke out windows and stomped in her roof. The shooting also seems to involve at fight at Mellow but it’s not clear exactly what happened

Not enough.

A $9 pitcher with a straw in it was my drink of choice.

SWB and Gravy will hold a press conference and thank Mellow for keeping these kids off the street.

What a complete shithole this town is.

It’s directly across the street from Sonic. Could just be spillover.

Spent many a Wednesday night from 2006-2009 walking around that place with my straw and pitcher.

I happened to walk by Mellow that night.

People were loitering everywhere from the parking lot at Mellow to the gas station across the street. It was a shite show.

Not surprised at all that something popped off.

2012-2016 was my time there and it was still decent then. Towards the end of that stretch it started to go downhill. Maroon 5 guy was holding that place together.

LSU has a major problem on their hands with all the section 8 that surrounds the campus.

When I was there 12 years ago it was avoidable but now the campus seems to be completely surrounded

That’s what happens when you build nothing but apartments on every piece of land surrounding campus. I’m not sure what LSU can do, but it’s going to really be a problem soon if it’s not already.

Of all the places around campus they decide to occupy MM. I say occupy, because that’s what they do, most don’t buy anything they just occupy space and and a lot of them don’t even come inside they just hangout in the parking lot.

It’s a shame MM is getting the bad press. They aren’t catering to this crowd, the crowd just chose MM.

I notice this at LSU and UNO. The apartments and houses built decades ago for students are not desirable to current students.
When I was there one section of tiger land was rough and Aster street was pretty bad.
I can imagine it's much worse now. I bet places I though were nice in 2000 are hood central now.

WBRZ may have the worst written article I have ever read regarding this incident.

quote:

BATON ROUGE – Nearby gunfire caused chaos and panic in a packed bar parking lot near LSU after an evening of partying early Thursday.

Police said a gunshot fired near Mellow Mushroom on Burbank lead to hysteria among patrons who were leaving the area. As groups fled the parking lot, a person trying to drive out of the lot got caught in the crowd and was attacked as she knocked people over and bumped into cars.

The driver was beaten and her car damaged by the scared mob. Video recorded by onlookers shows the crowd encircling the driver and climbing on top of her car. Police can also be seen handcuffing that same driver and leading her away.

Police said the crowd was spooked when a group of guys a couple blocks away from the restaurant fired shots. It’s not clear if the shots were meant to scare the crowd or were related to another situation. But, police working an extra-duty shift at the restaurant heard the shot and responded.

When officers attempted to investigate the gunshots, the suspects drove off.

As the fleeing men sped toward LSU down Burbank and onto Nicholson, officers radioed to LSU Police, who intercepted the suspects’ vehicle.

Both LSU Police and Baton Rouge Police said one of the people in the car ran from the vehicle when it stopped and, while being pursued by campus police, tossed a gun alongside Mike the Tiger’s habitat.

Jaylon Jackson and Jarius Wells were arrested on weapons and resisting police.

quote:

Authorities said the gun turned out to be stolen.

No one involved in the scuffle at the restaurant was charged.

Social media posts suggest the restaurant has become a popular late-night hangout on Wednesday evenings and early Thursday mornings. Bars aren’t required to close until 2 a.m. Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Bars must close at midnight between Sunday and Monday.
