I hear good things about Boone.
There’s an Indian casino in that area, and App State might provide decent FB entertainment for a while.
Plus if you get bored sitting around, Samaritan's Purse is headquartered there, they can always use volunteers.

We just spent the week out there, stayed on Beech mountain and went around to Boone and Blowing Rock, did lots of hikes and such. Scenery was amazing, perfect time of year to be there.

What’s the cost of living like around there?

Just remember that it’s great in summer but cold AF in the winter. I stayed there regularly on client visits and you have to be comfortable with snow and ice all winter.

I have been living in NC for 17 years. Love it, would not even entertain the thought of moving back to La.

A month ago I spent a couple of weeks in the Bryson City, Cherokee, Silva, NOC areas. Love it up there. Not sure I would like the winters though.

It’s great until everyone moves there…. All those things you mentioned go away when the halfbacks and carpetbaggers move in.

Felt the same way after a trip to Gatlinburg/Pidgeon Forge. Been looking at job openings in the area.

I'm in Jefferson multiple times a month. Mt Jefferson was like God's canvas this weekend -- most beautiful. Blueridge parkway is amazing this time of year as well.

I have relatives outside of Raleigh, in Holly Springs. They absolutely love living there. Apex is nice too.

From what I've seen, pretty affordable.

Outside of Asheville, WNC is mostly MAGA.
We’re just over the Blue Ridge escarpment on the SC side. Hotter summers but a lot less winter mess here. And leftists are used for target practice.

We went to the top of Mt.Jefferson last October when we were there, the views were great.
We took The Parkway on the way back on Friday, from Jefferson to Asheville. The views were breathtaking! I didn't realize that it gets to the top of the tree line when it goes up Mt.Mitchell. The colors, especially in the gulleys, were very vibrant.

There are MAGA flags everywhere up there.

White liberals will be taking over in the next 10 years. This is happening to every good town.

My wife was raised in Tazewell,VA. Back in the day, you graduated high school and promptly left. Now her friends are getting near retirement age and moving back.
Low cost of living, nice people and a slow easy lifestyle. What's not to like?

Been just outside of there. Beautiful. I've driven through Narrows and Pearisburg.

After vacationing in and around Boone 10 years ago I have been saying ever since that NC, and particularly that area, is my favorite place in the country.
