My wife couldn’t swim until she was in her mid 30’s. Never had access to a pool as a child since the family was poor and her parents didn’t know how to swim.

My mom moved to Florida in the early 50s with dad.

We lived on the Gulf Coast and had a boat for a majority of the time. She loved going to the beach.

She finally learned to swim in the early-mid 80s after they bought a house with a pool. She was in her 60s

Outside of those lessons - I don't think i ever saw her swim (not that i was home much as I graduated HS in 81)

My whole family can swim like a school of fish. We were fortunate enough to be able to take Red Cross swimming lessons. And we also lived on the water and were constantly in a bayou, lake or the GOM.

We also all became Water Safety Instructors so we could be lifeguards for summer jobs. ( I never did lifeguarding because I could make 5x per hour what they did catching turtle’s, selling fish or cutting grass ).

My mom never learned to swim. She grew up a mile from the ocean and loved the beach, but did not know how to swim. She said she fell into a canal as a kid and nearly drowned. Her dad saved her. Just had an irrational fear of the water after that.

I know of a few adults that can’t swim. It’s no big deal unless they get tossed in the water somehow

Over the years six different black men worked for us. None could swim. Only one of them was not scared of the dark.

I would bring them into the marsh ever year to work at the camp. They wore live jackets but did not care to run at night at all.

I gave them some rides speeding through the dark in a boat that they will never forget.

I understand how kids can’t swim. Once you get to be 14 years old I don’t get it. Even if you have never done it watching one YouTube video you should be able to do it

Yep.
The only thing that is more useless than the Monday morning meeting every week. Not only a stupid useless meeting to start every week, but let's make everyone uncomfortable to start off first thing Monday.

Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!!

My thoughts as well. This sounds like a very pointless meeting ran by an ineffective "leader".

I have a house by a Utah lake. There was an incident there a few years ago, in which a husband and wife were kayaking, but neither could swim and neither were wearing life vests. They had life vests, but they were just in the boat. The boat capsized. The wife was pulled from the water and resuscitated, but the husband was underwater and drowned.
