Sorry to hear OP. We are seeing the bottom right now where I am with quite a lot of projects coming up in 2017. Things are still going wide open in the ME. I was offered a transfer to Saudi last week.

Sorry to hear about this OP.
I left the oilfield during the bust in 1996. IMHO the good times weren't that good and the bust really sucked.
Halliburton moved guys down from up North and then gave them their 2 weeks pay and laid them off 3 months later, 30 at a time.

Hang in there OP. I hated it, but it got me out of a toxic situation and taught me an important lesson about keeping my eyes open. Since then I've been with two compiles that are now out of business. I saw the writing on the wall for both and made preemptive moves.
It's business, and most of them don't really give two shits about you. Do what's best for you.

It's still tough in the oil industry. My company lays off or some of the older guys take early retirement every few weeks. Going to be an empty office by the end of the year at this rate.

I would rather not be spared even if I struggle in the short term to find another job. CVX showed their true colors on these cuts and I despise this company now. I want out the area and the oilfield.

Welcome to corporate America.
The real kicker is while Halliburton paid for the hire move, these guys got nothing to move away.
Most had gotten LA plates (with the associated sales tax) for their cars they brought with them from other states too (ND, SD, MT,etc).

Yea its kinda weird that they would even be considering his lease. Unless you are living with relatives most people have a lease or a mortgage. Why would he be special circumstance having a lease?
