I hate that. My brother in law got laid off 6 months ago. He was lucky enough to find another job.
He did have to sell his truck though. Never had truck nuts to my knowledge.

Sorry to hear that. My BIL got laid off from BP. One of my other clients just got laid off in Houston. He also tells me Shell and Chevron are getting ready to lay off about 300-450 people from their Louisiana offices.

I'm sorry to hear it though. I was laid off in February and it took me a couple months to find something else. Luckily we have pretty steady work where I am now. It's really shitty work but it's something. What do you do? And good luck

My company is going through one as well. In three weeks, my department (600 of us) will have some type of meeting (the details aren't very clear) and will be told if we have a job or not. The verdict is final on the spot. I plan on cleaning my desk out the day before, and flipping the bird if I get the axe. They have been threading this for a year. Got the email two weeks ago that it is going to happen.

Lots of people have been laid off, any many many more are on edge in these parts. It's a tough time in anything oil.

Well, if your boss is serious about helping you out about the lease, call your landlord asap, and tell him what you need. Have him and you sign the lease. Have an addendum (that you will not turn in to your employer) on a separate piece of paper stating that the lease is null and void as of (insert 3 or 4 days, or a week) after signing, and lease terms will go back to verbal promises. This should satisfy your employer IF they are serious about helping. It would probably help if you did all of the legwork for your landlord as far as finding a lease, writing the adendum, etc. If you would like a copy of one of my rental leases, Ill be more than happy to provide you with that, just let me know.
As for post-layoff, and some of this may sound elementary, but people are stupid (including myself). IMMEDIATELY upon reduction of force, sign up for whatever kind of unemployment benefits you can get. If you think you may be out of work long term, find out what other benefits are available to you. When I was let go from my first job out of college (Congressman lost election, and was not rehired), I did not sign up for unemployment like my employer told me to. Burned through savings in five months and had little to nothing when I found my second job. (In b4 dear dairy)
I say this to prove how stupid I was, and to try and not let someone else make the same mistake. Put your pride aside, unlike what I did, and accept the help that is given to you. You've paid your taxes, and been a productive member of society, so accept it when it is there. Bust your arse to find a new job, even if its not what you "prefer" Industrial Construction is booming right now. Go to lake charles, LA. Beaumont, TX. Cold call industrial General and specialty contractor's HR departments and ask what is available. You'll come out just fine, keep your head up, and work your tail off. Good luck to you
