Good move. I’ve had Directv off and on since the early 90’s and for the most part it’s been great. While I question the perceived cost savings over Cox (just wait until the promo price expires), the quality of the picture and the Genie hardware itself are second to none. Ignore the folks who say the signal goes out every time it rains, that’s an exaggeration at best. It’s 100% about the alignment & the techs are required to ensure the signals are all high 90’s to 100% before they leave. I was in Livonia during Gustav helping my inlaws in case anything happened, DirecTV stayed on damn near until the power went out. You will occasionally lose the signal, but it’s only when there’s a heavy storm cell rolling south of your dish and it’s usually only for a few seconds. Rarely will you lose signal for minutes at a time.

We have a bunch of people in my neighborhood that have had directv for years and they all said they don't experience the bad weather outages at all. I don't know, man. Cox had bullshite with their rates every year and they've been out at least 10 times in the last few years to fix various connection issues. They've replaced the coax in the ground 4 times in that time. I was just done with them. Maybe they're better in other cities but in Nola they suck arse. And it took me all of ten minutes to go in and delete the infomercial channels from my favorites.

When I switched from Cox cable service to DirecTV service, I was floored at how much better DirecTV is than Cox. In fact, I cut the cord and was a little bummed that I had to break it off with DirecTV...but there's just no reason to pay that much for TV when you can basically get it for almost nothing nowadays.

So what I'm getting from this thread is they all have their good and bad or ups and downs. For right now I'm extremely pleased with the switch. Maybe it will change but the equipment if ridiculously ahead of Cox at this point.

This is it. DirecTV offers all their new customers deals that save them 40%-50% for the first year, then the rates get jacked up. Their are no loyalty deals from DirecTV until you are cancelling.

Also, I don't have Cox. I live in MS so I have Cable One.
