When I was in school I worked in the IT helpdesk for my university, during covid we didnt have many applicants so we were forced to hire Indians, some of them grad students but mostly just normal students from India. Every one of them sucked at that. It was the easiest job ever and you could not count on them at all. Not one of them. Things went to shite immediately. They disobeyed rules and outright didn’t show up to their shifts or did show up and didn’t do anything.
I was the lead my last year there and at one point I showed up to a one of our offices the size of a closet that had I swear to god 15 Indians hanging out together and only 1 was our employee. I was there to find out why the person working that region wasn’t responding to calls. They were just hanging out with their friends not doing the simplest work you could ever be asked to do. This during covid when we had restrictions on how many people could be in the office together. I just laughed my arse off at first but told them they all had to leave. It smelled like actual shite in that room.
Im not trying to be a hater, I’m just calling a spade a spade. Out of the hundreds of Indians I’ve directly worked with maybe 2-3 were actually worth it.

Its a cultural thing. Work culture in India is basically one giant dick measuring contest. It's why if you interview with an Indian, the Indian interviewing you basically spends the entire interview trying to prove that he/she is intellectually superior to you.
So according to Indian work culture, if you don't know or understand something that shows weakness and will get you ridiculed by your Indian higher ups.

I'm old enough to not know what this is.
Tariffs are taxes on consumers. Not allowing H1B visas is effectively a tariff which is a tax on consumers. Tariffs enable inefficiencies and are terrible for markets and consumers. I'm not sure why this is a controversial topic. It's pretty clear.
The market works these things out on it's own. It doesn't need intervention from gov'ts.

That's accurate as well.
They have a hard time letting go of that caste bullshite.

Bullfricking shite. Go get a dental license out of the country then come here and try to practice.

They never do. Either it's in them, or it's not. The amount of shite the guy next to me puts up with because "his bosses told him," (like taking a pay cut to move from Michigan to Texas, and moving with two weeks of warning, hoping to be reimbursed within 6-8 weeks) is amazing, even though I'd rather he not sit anywhere near me.
Indian BI developers at $50 an hour? Probably good enough. Ask them to act like architects or consultants, LOL. Thou shalt know only failure.
Although we do have a domestic (white) mom and pop shop that hasn't been able to fix two simple JSON errors in over a month, costing the company tens of thousands a week. Expected fix time? "Soon."

You have to carefully vet them.
You weed out the lazy ones pretty quickly.
I don't inherently disagree with most of what had been posted here, but as someone in the business, bidding for projects, it's a tough row to hoe.
As a value proposition, I've actually had a customer say that we know your team/bid is better, but are 2-3x better than the competing bid (dollar-wise)?
( I was proposing domestic resources against the competition's Indian resources)

Your post reads like something from the 2008 republican platform

A license to practice medicine is vastly different than an IT job. You go to your 3rd world dentist all you want. I'll stick with the American ones, thank you.

I've had the same thinking for years. Do unto them exactly as they do unto us

Some projects have a lot of grunt work.
give that to the new hire, the intern, the new guy on the team, or someone who could pick up a new skill. not people from the opposite side of the world, who have no business being here and hate our culture.

I will also say that the Indians who keep calling me about Medicare or solar only THINK they can speak English.

Put them out of business
Posted on 12/13/24 at 10:42 am to goldennugget
Working with a lot of Indians on an IT project at the moment. Most have good technical skills but are close to useless when it comes to applying technology to business problems. If you don’t spell out exactly what you want you are guaranteed a shiteshow.

They are OK at doing grunt work like you said, menial repetitive tasks but anything that requires outside of the box thinking, communication skills, people skills or adaptability when things go off script, they become utterly useless.
I'm against H1B visas being used strictly to cut costs rather than there being no domestic candidates but it's still weird to hear you talk about Indians like they are a completely different species. Maybe you worked with the McDonald's equivalent hires.
There are some that can think outside the box and others that can't

Yes. I meant that it is a mix of indians, chinese, koreans, and such that are driving the school over the 50% "asian" mark. But the actual percentage of Indians is much lower than that.
