Unfortunately, in the society and culture we live in, hopelessness is not unreasonable or confusing. The solution for addiction is not in curbing access to drugs, but in creating situations that preclude the need to become addicted.
Self medication is a more serious problem than the party goer who uses on weekends. The problem is that drugs/alcohol are very effective in the beginning of masking emotional pain but it's definitely a trap.
The percentage of people prone to self medicating is probably much lower than fear mongers would like us to believe.

Those were not the kind of situations I was speaking of, but I'm not entirely capable or willing to write a novel on how substance addiction is a result of a decaying society.
Regardless, I ask two questions:
1. Do you deny that it is possible for someone to use a substance responsibly?
2. Do you believe that prohibition in its current form deters and solves substance abuse effectively?

As if you can control for that. Are you going to outlaw jobs firing employees, landlords evicting residents for lack of payment because rent money was spent on heroin? Are you going to outlaw workplace stress?
This dudes gotta be trolling

Legalize and regulate heroin? You're shitting me right?
There are more effective ways to fight drug use than mass incarceration.

Heroin, meth, anything similar... Absolutely not.

People that want to do it,are doing it.Might as well give them access to Needle exchange to cut down on the HIV and Hep-C.Give them access to Narcon so they quit ODing.

Yes, legalize heroin. Markets: how do they work?

Imagine what Drano would do if you ingested that. It is legal. In fact many things that would kill you if ingested is legal. Do you really the government to make those things illegal to keep you from partaking?
The high I get from mainlining dran-o just doesn't feel the same as black tar though.

We regulate alcohol. Has that solved alcohol-related deaths?
Please look up the history of Prohibition and the murders and mayhem caused by the bootleggers of the 20's and 30's.
I would say yes, it has seriously helped in regards to forcing liquor distributors to fund AAA and awareness ads.

This man was not a drug user. He was a supplier. I do not have any problem on taking it easy of people with drug problems. Prison may not be the best solution for the average junkie but this dude was SELLING heroin. He had over an ounce in his car. There is a huge difference to me here. If a junkie gets pulled over with 1/4 gram of heroin, he needs help, not jail. If you are pulled over selling this shite, you need to be dealt with harshly, IMO.

shite he was selling was probably cut with half-baked fentanyl and rat poison.
Pretty much attempted murder by scum distributors of these products, IMO.

I love how people act like legalizing heroin is so absurd when doctors prescribe what is essentially the same thing

But I'd also like to believe the legal repercussions (as well as health effects) is what deters most sane people from getting involved with a drug like heroin.
You WANT to believe that most of the people that you interact with on a daily basis arent doing fricking HEROIN because of legal ramifications?!!?!
