I shouldnt be knocking Rogan, hes obviously not stupid, just not what I was expecting. I listen to Carolla who can absolutely hold his own with people who may be smarter than he is(although I think Carolla is brilliant).
Carolla is better at interviewing smart people because he finds ways to translate it to what he knows. His interviews will sometimes go off the rails though, because he'll then go off on a tangent about some dumb shite earlier in his life that kind of has the same situation but not really.

A lot of JP is the equivalent of an older male seeing a kid buying a tie for his first interview, and helping him tie it. If you had a solid male role model in your life, JP has a lot less to offer.

He's no "messiah," but if you think he's "just a self-help writer" then you're obviously not familiar with his body of work.
I challenge anybody that seemingly takes issue with Jordan Peterson to watch or listen to his lecture series on Genesis. It's one of the most powerful series I've ever listened to.
People like to badmouth or make fun of the "clean your room" analogy. But it's true; if you want to set your world in a way that you would be content (notice I didn't say happy) then you should start with the smallest thing possible first and work out from there. It's essentially saying the same as Christ saying "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."
I have no clue why people have such a hard on about Peterson trying to put a rudder on a generation of aimless men.

In clown times we all know what is nonsense. He dissects and explains the “why and how” of the tripe we are bombarded with.

Here is what I said, and it's provably true:
Jordan Peterson who pursues truth and subjects every one of his ideas to public scrutiny
Here is how the mindless ladysplainer NPC wagged her finger:
Yet, like you just tried to sell it, some acts like he’s some enlightened Messiah. It’s weird.
They don't even bother anymore. They are so RIGID and so SMUG and so PROGRAMMED to uphold the Progressive orthodoxy they can't fricking tolerate another opinion, even if it's just a factual statement. They just ignore what you actually say, build a snarky Straw Man, down vote and flee. Jesus, I hate this new Closed Mind America with all these shrill fricking double-digit IQ Moral Nannies and all their kneejerk lectures. Get over yourself. Go cancel your poor husband or do something constructive with your life, tearing critical thinking and rational inquiry down 24/7/365 ain't working.

I've always felt like that's a self-discipline message more than anything else.

the problem is that while Peterson isn't politically right by any means or a christian, most of his conclusions rail pretty hard against trans rights, 3rd wave feminism, and social justice issues.
it asks for men to be men, women to be women, adults to be adults, and people to be responsible for their own actions and behaviors.
that's not an inherently right/conservative position, but it flies in the face of modern culture.

They have no original thoughts because of their intellectual limitations so they regurgitate whatever their preferred idealogue propagates to make themselves feel better. They rarely engage in open dialogue face to face but spread these thoughts like wildfire through social media for likes, retweets and reassurance that they're "doing it right" with their tribe.
Individuals from both parties subscribe to this method but it seems those on the left do it more than the right.

How about you know what's right and wrong and follow that path instead of having to be led by the nose down a path that is agenda driven by someone you don't know and will never meet?
WTF happened to this country? fricking role model
This is asinine. My dad is both my role model and mentor.

Many of the #1 types desperately want to be the #2 types. That is Jordan Peterson. His next original idea will be his first. Any chance for him to develop an original idea is probably held back by his bizarre devotion to the importance of religious archetypes.
This is along with some others is such a soundbite take that you've pulled from twitter. Peterson wrote a mainstream book(s), intended for a mainstream audience, and then you complain that it isn't academic.
Have you read Maps of Meaning? The guy got a teaching job at Harvard at like 30 years old based on that very serious academic book. He's also in like the top 5 percent of citations as a publishing academic in his field. If you don't want mainstream laymen work, than get off your arse and read his academic work and then criticize that.
Oh the iron of this type person crying pseudointellectual...

quote:this is amazing but when they get to a certain age I do think it’s a good idea to tell them the important of politics. My wife was raised in pretty much the same way you describe your parenting technique, she’s smart, funny, has 2 degrees and a masters, but the downside is she had no political knowledge and so believed everything that her friend group said which equates to orange man bad! Over the past 5 years since we’ve been together I’ve got her to at least understand why certain political views are bad (I.e communism) but she still doesn’t grasp the important of policitics. She thinks america as an entity basically will always be at the same place it is now on the world hierarchical scale and that’s just the way life is. That the arts, music, literature is all just part of being American. She doesn’t understand the history behind what made this nation great and what is lurking trying to tear us down. And if you hide your kids from politics the way you are describing, they’ll go off to college a bright young kid who loves their parents and come back with Marxist garbage in their head. Not because they’re dumb or even naive but because it has completely infected nearly every single college campus in America and in almost every single department.
In my personal opinion, teaching my kids about science, arts, music, physical activities, responsibilities & consequences of their actions, etc. is the ultimate responsibility I can do as a parent. That is what I am leaving my kids.

If non-thinkers parrot talking points they hear in pop culture, I wonder where the hell they'd get that idea?

In fairness, he says every chance he gets that everything he says on podcasts and lectures…he’s not just talking to everyone else. He includes himself among those that need improvement.

What I am not tolerating (for them and myself) are the "professionals" and pundits who think their opinions matter when it comes to politics. Their opinions mean nothing at best and serve to divide at worst.

I would not be so sure about this part. I will say, though, that I think he wrestles with his own personal faith daily. I personally think that he's talking primarily about himself, and to himself, when he says "who dares say they believe in God?"
If you watch interviews with him when people ask if he believes in God, he does not like the question, he's made uncomfortable by it. Primarily because he wrestles with that very question daily. I do believe now, after watching his clip with Jonathan Pagaeu, that God is working on him in a very deep way. I think that Christ is not knocking on the door to his heart, but pounding on it, if Peterson has not answered yet. I don't know, that's just one man's belief on that particular topic with him.
