How can one not see everything through a political lens when the MO of these social movements is to disrupt everything in society with politics?
Play with your kids. Find hobbies. Cook. Be Merry. Change the subject when it pops up.

I had to completely change the way we do things. Board game nights with the kids. Activities such as museums, planetariums, parks. Started investing more into chess. Exercise. Adding more date nights with the wife. Stop following the pundits, grifters, influencers, and start following things you actually like (breweries, chefs, bbq, science, space, photographers, hobbies, etc.). Unfollow, and hide anything political the algorithms are forcing on your own page. It takes a while, but it can be done.

It's really not that hard if you WANT to change it.

in a way, both you and efrad are correct. And it’s impressive that you’ve been able to isolate your family from a hyper polarized world. kudos.

Sounds like he's teaching his kids to take care of themselves and their own little world instead of focusing on outside noise that they'll never control or impact positively.

After he got famous he definitely trended that way.

I think the health issues with his wife and the corresponding benzo issues have realigned a lot of his view. I don't anticipate anymore worldwide tours anytime soon.

This is probably fair.

I think he's realized that he's wasted enough time arguing with shock jockeys in front of a camera.

Peterson's message is generally good, but he seems a tad overemotional. The guy always seems like he's teetering on being mad/sad regardless of what he's talking about.

He is pretty open about his anxiety issues and how much he does not like confrontation.

Blinders?

In my personal opinion, teaching my kids about science, arts, music, physical activities, responsibilities & consequences of their actions, etc. is the ultimate responsibility I can do as a parent. That is what I am leaving my kids.

If not showing my 8 and 4 year old sons what the Candace Owens, AOC's, Alec Baldwin's, Ben Shapiro's, and Joe Rogan's of the world their most recent tweets of doom and hate is putting on blinders, then so be it.

My kids will be fine, trust me. They'll be left with being responsible adults, great educations, love, family, and friends. Hell of a world, I suppose.

it was really tough at first. But after a while, it became life as normal...or as much as it can be.

Like I said, you have to WANT it.

Obviously, you're supposed to indoctrinate them.

That's the second time someone has told me this (and which I knew already). I appreciate the white knighting and all, but what the hell does that have to do with anything?

I do have hobbies. These hobbies previously had nothing to do with politics. Now they do.

I don't really drink. I follow food topics, that's become political. Science has become extremely political. I follow photography which is actually pretty neutral, but my wife and I are also involved in film which is extremely political.

Am I supposed to give up lifelong passions and hobbies because of politics? And pretend it's not happening because then I'd be making everything about politics? I've already completely given up much of it (like sports) but I'm not giving up everything and becoming an ascetic.

Ignorance may be bliss, but your ostrich approach will not save you from what’s coming. Ignoring these fascist crybullies is how we got here in the first place. They now need to be directly confronted, but cowards would prefer to remain ignorant and simply do as they’re told.

This snippet is a perfect encapsulation of this board. This place is so ate up with politics that it’s unfathomable to some that people can be friends and respect each other if they have different views.

I honestly don’t understand how you guys live in that world where everything is viewed through a political lense and those who disagree with you are idiots or evil. That has to be miserable.

But Jimmy thinks outright evil shite. He has said that the unvaccinated shouldn’t be given treatments in hospitals. This is every bit morally equivalent as saying that people with HIV shouldn’t get treatment since they should have used a condom, so just go ahead and please die you degenerate.

I’m sorry, I would not be friends with someone who has genocidal thoughts towards millions of his own citizens. Adam and Sarah Silverman remaining friends makes sense in your context. I’m sorry, but Jimmy is evil and I do not use that word lightly.

He is a grifter. He sells general, common sense ideas as some type of new age pseudo-spiritualism. Some people buy into it.

It's no different than having Kim Kardashian as a role model. Shes only making money.

Kim actually isn’t that bad of a role model outside of her sex tape IMO. She’s been massively into prison reform and has recently gotten her law degree to help those less fortunate. She’s clearly not into this for the fame and money, but she’s really worked hard to get where she’s at today even if she made some mistakes in the past. I think Kim Kardashian is actually a good person, just tell your daughter not to make a sex tape like she did.

Your strategy was the norm for just about all kids just 20-30 years ago. I always find it disturbing when parents try pushing politics on to their kids, or when Adults think that we should place any value on a child's opinion in politics. There's a reason we have a voting age...it wasn't just some random afterthought.

I mean, I'm not going to tell you who and what to follow.

You're smart enough to know the difference of opinionated grifters who's job is to make you pissed at something (and get paid handsomely for it), and a person you like to follow who simply has an opinion on a matter that you may disagree with, but then leaves it alone and goes back to doing whatever it is they do that you enjoy.

I realize that everyone has opinions on everything going on. I took it upon myself to figure out who is doing it for monetary, social, or divisive actions, and took them out. If someone simply has an opinion, says something about it & leaves it alone, then whatever. I'm not going to let that one opinion sway my judgement of their content.

And how does that make her immune from criticism? She's riding the coattails of her father. She paints herself as a redpilled traditional woman but is anything but.
