Why would he create this lie? How much worse could the actual truth be - that he'd make up this "lie" to cover for it?

That he raped her first? That he raped her after? That he mutilated her body? Even if his story is true, he isn't telling it all.

OK, if he's given his heart over to Jesus, why did he murder the girl in South America?

He's a serial murderer, not a one time killer.

I don't know if that's what he thought, but her mother and her brother were all smiles at the press conference and said this was better than closure and they finally have justice for Natalee.

They probably know he is full or it with the how and have long come to grips with the fact they never will know 100% what happened. Having him admit it to them - I could see getting closure from that.

Damn. I did not see that coming.

I always assumed she OD'd based off the story he told the con man years ago about her "beginning to shake". And that he panicked and tossed her body in the ocean.

Part of me was like, "Well, that's why you don't do drugs with strangers in foreign countries.", and I somewhat assigned a small portion of blame on her behavior.

quote:

“I start feeling her up again and she tells me no. She tells me she doesn’t want me to feel her up.”

“Uh, I insist. I keep feeling her up either way,’’ van der Sloot said. “Uhm, and uh, she knees me uh, she ends up kneeing me in the crotch.”

While she shouldn't have put herself in that position, and her friends abandoning her was also a bad decision. It sounds like she was just refusing his advances and he killed her for it.

Stay at least 100 feet away from piers and jetties. Permanent rip currents often exist near these structures.

Quick goggle search showed this for aruba. I'm with the other poster about covering up evidence with shuffling sand around.

If I remember correct the authority didn't take it very seriously at first and the parents didn't arrive till days later to turn up pressure. So you also have the Tide washing away evidence.

Idk why but I leaning toward it being truthful.

It's a shame what happen to the young lady. She was two years younger than me.

Sounds like? It is what he is claiming.

This story does him few, if any, favors. Which means if he IS making it up, how bad was what really happened, as someone asked upthread?

And so he pretty much gets off Scott-free for killing her. The fact they didn't immediately charge him with murder is proof his attorneys struck a deal with the US prosecutors to not hold any statement he made against him for a US charge of murder.

If they decide to charge him with murder in Aruba (I bet that will never happen) he will go to a better jail there than in Peru. It was also announced that his 20 years sentence for extortion here will run concurrent with his remaining time in Peru, in other words, he will most likely never see a day inside a US prison for extortion.

If he can just swing it to get placed in a prison in Aruba, he will have been successful. Who knows how long they would even keep him locked up there since they have never seemed serious about the murder of a foolish young American girl.

I wish I could say I hope Natalee's father (A State Farm Agent in Meridian) would pay someone off to take him out in Peru, but I can't wish that on him. He seems to be in a situation where he will burn with pain every day for the rest of his life. We still lived in Meridian when this happened. As I remember, he didn't want her to go one the trip, but was manipulated into saying she could go with her "friends". So much tragedy here. It was their last night in Aruba. They went out for one last night of partying and she had no friend who cared enough about her to take care of her and get her back to the hotel when she got drunk in a club where local guys (IMO - sexual predators) trolled the water for girls just like her. She was a young unchaperoned, high school girl - good looking blond, drunk and irresponsible.

Makes me sick. I need to get my mind off this.

I still don't believe him. I'm sure he did it, but I don't think this is the true story.

Whoa. Was not expecting that.

Horrible for her family.

Idk. While it's awful to finally hear how it was done, that is an absolutely quick death if it is proven to be true. Idk if they ever recovered her body. I stopped paying attention to this ages ago, and have forgotten anything I did know. However, in the end, she died and they've known that. A quick death is really as good as their hope could be about it all.

the family came a few days later and they had a team of specialized dogs and hired that texas EquuSearch unit to come a find any sort of trace of holloway's body, remains, blood, saliva, dna, etc

They patrolled the island everywhere including the immediate vacinity Joran killed her. They could not find anything at the time. Now his confession just so happens to say otherwise

Nancy Grace and Greta Van Sustren did nightly specials about this

He didnt just move sand around and make it all disappear

Wouldn't she have to be taken out a little ways for her not to just wash right back up on the beach?

That was my immediate thought as well. I feel like she would've been found either that night still or at first light.

Tide.

Dogs aren’t smelling anything the ocean washed away several times over.

It depends on the tide. Him being an islander, he probably knew it was a falling tide.

If it was a falling tide her blood any other evidence would've remained on the sand for at least 6 hours for the police and dogs to find.

I'm also curious what he did with the cinderblock, which would've been covered in evidence.
