Mortgage brokerage.
In the subprime days, absolutely true.
"Look, your credit is bad, everyone else has turned you down, but you've got equity, we're going to pay all this off, sure your interest rate is 13 % but you are saving $1000 a month because of all this other stuff we are paying off, come back to me in six months when your credit improves, and we'll get this down to six percent. I'll waive that prepay penalty too, I promise. Go ahead and sign here."
These days it's alot harder to rip people off.
Most of the guys from the subprime days were former car salesman, for what it's worth.

Same here. It’s not like current auto rates are tough to find.

Same. I did get up and leave from the F&I office the last time I bought a car. I even told the guy I had been a Controller and CFO at an 18 wheeler dealership in the past (basically saying I know how the sausage is made, don't frick me), and he still proceeded to try to frick me

Finance managers at car dealers
I have only dealt with one, I generally have my own financing lined up. In the last case, I had my preapproval in hand, gave it to the finance guy, he beat it, so I signed with them. It didn't seem too sleazy of a transaction.
I guess if your credit is a little fricked up (no judgement, I've been there) and you can't walk in with a great pre-approval and you need them to lend you money to get your car, you have to deal with a little bit of sleaziness. That's life. If you owned a car dealership, would you hire a seasoned salesman or a nun to run your finance?

It was horrible.
Everybody had their hand out.
Guy at the bank violates bank rules and the law and gives you a borrower's file. Which happened every single time a bank turned someone down.
That guy gets a few Franklins in his hand when the loan closes at a subprime lender.
Everybody was in on the graft.

Architects, Engineers, Contractors.....those are the ones I deal with the most.

Don't tell them what you've been pre-approved for if you want to see how they operate

What specifically have they lied to you about?
"That's the best rate I can get you"
I've bought cars where the finance guy didn't even try after reviewing my pre-approval information. So fricking satisfying.
Also, the concept of "caveat emptor" exists for a reason. Always be on guard and protecting yourself, because ultimately it's YOUR responsibility to agree to the deal and make sure you're not getting fricked. The guy trying to bend you over can't make you buy anything.

It blows my mind.
I had literally just bought a vehicle elsewhere and got less than 3% from the dealer and he acted all aghast.
